Gilmour Foam Gun... the first use

I finally had a chance to use my Gilmour Foam Gun, with balmy 48 degree day I felt it was a perfect day to give my truck a good hand wash. This is the first hand wash since Christmas as the weather has been very cold!!

    One dirty ride!

On my first use this seem that it will be a very handy tool. My truck was extremely dirty so I loaded the 'gun' with 5oz of Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner and topped off with water. I also added a couple ounces of soap to my rinse bucket to 'prime' the wash mitt, I felt my truck was dirty enough to use some extra soap just for peace of mind.

After rinsing the truck I tinkered with the settings on the foam gun. Seems the 12oz/gallon (the highest ratio) was the optimal setting. I also tried to adjust the two little brass screws located on the mixing head and really didn't see any difference in the foam concentration so I tightened them down all the way and went on washing. I then chaged between the foaming lance and the other small plastic tip located in the photo below. It is best to use the foaming lance, the smaller tip makes very little foam.

    Action Shots:

I ended up washing the truck twice since it was so drity... not that it really needed it but I just wanted to make sure all grime was gone!

    After:

    Overall Thoughts:
I do like this product, if I hadn't washed my truck twice it would have saved some time. It does what it says it will, make foam and lots of it! Very easy to use and it will put the foam right where you want it with very little 'overspray', I was under the impresion it would be a little messy spraying foam just about everywhere but that didn't turn out to be the case.

For my truck it took one 'bottle' of water/soap soloution for one wash of my truck. There is no savings in soap but there seems to be a savings of time (in this case I was tinkering with settings so it took longer than expected), and IMO just makes it easier to wash my truck.

As others have mentioned a quick connect and shut-off is a must between the hose and the spray nozzel. It is a little combersome to screw onto the hose with the foaming lance and soloution container attached to the spray nozzle. Adding the quick connect will make things just that much easier.

This is a keeper! For me the whole idea behind it is to speed the process up, washing a truck this large as much as I do can get time consuming.

Help turn the economy around one foam gun at a time and go buy one, 20,000+ members that could be alot of foam guns!

another satisfied customer ! i use a fireman nozzle with a quick disconnect as well, and when you twist/turn it to one side, there will be a blooming pattern that works well to sheet the water off for the final rinse...

Glad you like it. You mean in your balmy weather you did not go to the beach?

i know there are many detailing tools these days that aren't "must haves" but in all honesty, this is one of the best purchases i've ever made and worth every penny.

I was looking for the foam shot (money shot) too! So, with the foam gun, you foam the truck, then wash as normal with the foam still on? Or, do you foam, rinse, then wash?

                    Brandon,

Glad to see you are liking the foam gun.

I received mine about 3 weeks ago and I have used it twice. The second time went a little better than the first. The first time I used it at the highest foaming setting and went through the soap solution before I finished my wifes Trailblazer. I went through a lot of Gold Class Shampoo that day.

I used it again last Thursday on my Camry at the lowest setting and still had half the soap solution left at the end of the wash. So finding the perfect setting should not be problem at my next wash.

The jury is still out with me on whether it's a faster wash or not. Even though I eliminated the wash bucket, I still had to visit the rinse bucket often for cleaning my mitt.

I'm thinking if I use four wash mitts for one car wash I could really save time by making this a bucketless process.

Yeah... I figure the next time around it will be a little more smooth. I was using two wash mitts and that helped speed things up but I do like the idea of adding more mitts.

I just ordered this gun yesterday from Amazon and a fire hoze nozzle, but think I may have missed getting an attachment to swap from gun to nozzle quickly. Looks like I need a quick connect?

Looks like a nice gun though. Not sure if I should have sprung for the better nozzle.
(I've been sitting here on hold with Brinkmann to get info and the dual zenon spot mentioned in another thread......21 minutes and counting.......)
