    Re: Winter Washing Videos

I've never seen a DIY car wash that takes credit cards; I know he was shooting a video but I'd hate to see his bill!
A couple weeks back I used a DIY along with a bucket of ONR that I brought from home - it was -9F and I tried to do the truck in halves otherwise it would freeze before I could wash it or dry it. No way I could loligag around like he did.
I found it quite funny that he advertised "car wash etiquette" by where he rinses out the wash brush for the next guy (never mind that he just washed his engine with it)
I'll go along with the masses - not bad technique but not perfect advice either.

I agree with the others in that I wouldn't use the brush either.

He also didn't mention about the soap stripping off wax. I broke down today and in below freezing weather, used one of those car washes. I knew it would strip off any of the NXT wax that was still left on the car, but there was so much salt that my gray car was white. I just had to do something!

I'll hand wash in my driveway if the temp. is above freezing, but that hasn't happened in a while and according to the forecast wont happen in a while either (I live near Chicago). Granted without using the brush in the car wash, the car can only gets so clean. Well at least it is better than before. Since it was so cold, the car is covered in ice now. I wouldn't try to dry the car because I don't think it was clean enough to try and dry.

As long as I can get in tomorrow to go to work, I'll consider the wash worth it.

If he brought his own soap and bucket why not his own brush??

          Re: Winter Washing Videos

I got lucky it was 40 degrees yesterday. I washed all of my cars.

My Black cars were White! By swiping the paint with a finger you would get actual crystals of salt and grime. Disgusting.

I use those car washes just to spray off the car in the winter. No brushes or anything though.

7 degrees with a windchill of -2 in Chicago tonight. Good luck.

yeah, he says dont use high pressure then he blast away

Would rather have my black vehicle turn completely white with salt than use a brush on it. Love it when he says " If you feel the brush dragging, stop...you are scratching your car" What a joke......

Funniest thing -- we point out the errors or bad ideas in the videos and then say they were "well done". Bottom line -- would you recommend them to a friend who is just beginning to try to take good care of his/her vehicle? I sure wouldn't.

                    Re: Winter Washing Videos

I think there are things you can disregard and things that you can apply to your own winter washing. I for sure wouldn't feel good about using the brush that's already there. To me, why not just bring your own brush or wash mitt? When I do this, I like to bring my own two buckets of water, one of which already has my soap mixed in, and use my own mitt. I don't think during the winter it's necessary to wash your engine compartment, so that seems excessive. I don't want to rip the guy too much, as it seems some of his techniques are pretty good.

                      Re: Winter Washing Videos

The guy doing the wash is a "pro detailer". Not an amateur on YouTube. He should be ready to take a little flack.

There are 32 "how to" videos on Adam's Polishes' website. The winter wash is not on the list yet but it is in their sponsor section of Autopia. Lots of the information in the videos is much different than what is promoted on this forum. Not a criticism, just a difference of opinion.

The detailer in the video pointed out that he was not working on a show car. It was only a "daily driver". Some "daily driver" -- a black Ford Excursion. I wonder how may swirls were instilled in the Excursion during this trip to the car wash.

                      OK -- I'm done.
