    Re: So many MF Towels.

On the internet I found these instructions. FWIW:

    * Slightly warm water is best for washing microfiber. You should wash the towels with a liquid detergent that is bleach-free. Liquid detergent is preferred over powder because there is a chance that powdered detergent may not dissolve completely. This risk is concentrated if you use cold water. Remember, microfibers tend to hold everything.

    * Always wash your microfiber towels on gentle cycle; never wash microfiber with terry or other types of towels. The microfiber will treat any lint or other material from traditional towels like dirt and store the particles within the microfibers.

    * Never use fabric softener. The microfiber towel will accumulate the softener and saturate the microfibers, thus reducing its effectiveness.

    * Never dry microfiber in a dryer on high heat. You could actually melt the towel with excessive heat. Dry on low heat or just extract your towels.

        Re: So many MF Towels.

At Meguiar's we do use liquid Tide, but it has more to do with how you add detergent to the washing machine.

At the Phillips household we've been using Tide powder detergent forever and none of my work comes out with any swirls or scratches caused by my microfibers.

At Meguiar's we run everything through on the "Heavy Duty" cycle and at the Phillips household we run everything through on the hot cycle.

At both places we use the "normal" dryer setting for drying microfibers.

At neither place we use fabric softeners in the dryer.

Keep in mind the Cyberworld is a place where you will mind the MOST AR people, not the least, and some people take things to extremes that are not necessary.

At the end of the day find a system for washing and drying that makes you happy and go with it.

Though it is pretty obvious which ones are the Meguiars ones for paint, and the cheaper Target ones for interior, glass, etc.

            Re: So many MF Towels.

I've been cleaning my microfibers in the washing machine now for a couple of years, only washing microfibers together to guard them from linting with regular towels. I use liquid tide, hot water and a scoop of oxy clean. When the rinse cycle starts I add a small amount (a cup or two) of white vinegar to break up any soap still on the towels. I then dry them in the dryer. Works pretty well...

              Re: So many MF Towels.

I wash on normal, hot water and use Tide Liquid (I like powder but it leaves residue on dark clothes we hang up, bad water). I dry on delicate/permanent press and no softner/dryer sheets.

I store them in buckets with lids, I store my yellow costco bought towels in one, use for door jambs, windows and basically non paint applications and my Supreme Shine towels in another bucket, and....a bucket for my terry cloths and oh yeah, a bucket for my red rags (working on cars).

They work pretty handy, although I store my applicators in another storage container now, this is an older photo.

Pretty handy to store anywhere and carry around.

                Re: So many MF Towels.

I store all my towels in inexpensive plastic containers I picked up at Walmart. I just wrote on half of the containers "dirty" so that way I know whats what and it keeps everything organized. I have containers for waxing/polishing MF's, general use terry's, glass MF's, and plastic MF's. All in all it cost less than $20 and keeps everything organized and tidy.

As far as cleaning them all, I keep them seperated into their above mentioned groups. I have a 5 GAL bucket i put them in, fill the bucket with med hot water and a generous capful of Tide. I swish it around a few times, let sit overnight, empty out the water, wring them out and put them in the washing machine like normal. I put them in the dryer on low heat and set it on the auto dry setting, which basically senses when everything is dry. I am extremely anal about checking the lint trap though and will check it at least once during the drying cycle. With MF's there is usually very little to no lint, a little more with terry's.

This system works very well for me, feel free to steal some ideas from it.

Do you guys wash your applicator pads as well? Do you use the same procedure for the mf towels?

Based on the suggestion of one of our MOL members (I think it was Mark K., but I may be mis-remembering), I soak my applicator pads for several hours, usually overnight, in a Dawn/water solution.

Glad this thread has been bumped. I just used a new applicator with some Collinite and I'm having a hard time getting all the product out. Will try the Dawn / Water soak tonight and report back.

The pads with which you have used Collinite 845 need to sit in the Dawn solution for a good long time, and you need to squish them periodically. But that being said, I keep my two Collinite pads separate from all the others and use them solely for 845. No matter how much I soak them, they still have that pungent Collinite aroma. It's better than model airplane glue.

been using three types of MF's differently ribbed for different parts to clean i just leave them soaking overnight in warm water and quality detergent, used to machine wash MF's they only lasted a couple of months i hang them to dry.

Some People like to only use certain Towels For Wax and Paint. And the others for Interior, wheels, engine, etc.

I don't separate them at all. I do sort them by color but I use them all on every surface.

I wash all my MF towels together, and as of right now I have a ton of blue towels. I use them in the house and for detailing the cars. To keep the ones used in the house separate from the ones used on the car, I took a black permanent marker and put an "H" in a corner of each towel used for house cleaning.

I have a garbage pail that I throw only dirty microfiber towels into. Clean ones are stored in plastic storage containers.

Ha! That is a good idea, I was considering just keeping one or two set aside for Collinite. Love their waxes, esp. the 845. Gives such a smooth feel to the paint, perfect for a daily driver. It doesn't replace my Megs products, but it does have a prime location in my storage cabinet.
