  • #80 Question

I am planning to do my annual winter details on my two black Acura's - 06 MDX and 07 TL - both with moderate swirls and scratches.

    MDX

    TL

I just purchased a G110. My plan is:
    1. Gold Class wash
    2. Clay
    3. #80 with 8006
    4. NXT 2.0 with 9006
I will do a small test area first, but was wondering...if the #80 is a bit too aggressive (read several posts about concerns with marring and "soft" Acura paint) what would be the next less aggressive cleaner/polish to try with a DA - #9?

    Thanks.

hiya, i would say #82 then #9 would be steps down from #80, it is always advisable to use the least agressive combination, so you could try #80 with a finishing pad before the above, if you have #80 and polishing and finishing pads they should take care of the swirls

You could also try something really simple and that's to use ColorX with either a polising pad or maybe even a finishing pad.

ColorX is a one-step cleaner/wax that does contain diminising abrasives and if your paint is soft and the swirls are light then it might just do the trick to remove them while leaving the paint protected when you're done.

Good idea. I have a bottle of ColorX and didn't think to go that route. Thanks, Mike.

This works very well on my TSX.

I was thinking along the lines of #66, also. It is one of my favorites as most of you know. :

                Thanks, RaskyR1.

Do you find you TSX paint to be somewhat soft? What color/model year?

                  Yes, VERY!

2008 Milano Red...it has the tinted clear too. I was getting very frustrated with it and then Mike tipped me off on using ColorX/M66 with the Finishing pad.

Now I pretty much use that once a month and then NXT 2.0 every other wash.

My girl has a 2005 Acura RL in the same NHPB color as yours. Her paint was in far worse condition than yours. I went over it with M80 on the rotary followed by M66 on the FLEX and it turned out great.

You mentioned in your previous post that you got frustrated doing the TSX. Was that because of the soft paint and marring issue or something else? Were you using #80?

BTW, sorry, but I don't know what "NHPB" means?

Yes, it's a tick more aggressive.

                            Re: #80 Question

I've had the absolute best results with my PC using scratch-X, and this is on two black cars that #80 tends to turn a bit hazy no matter which way you work it. The scratch X has much more corrective power then #9 and color-X, yet always finishes off with a crystal clear haze free finish

OhioCarBuff is right, we often forget about how nice ScratchX finishes out.
