Haha, seriously. I actually have a particular client with a few vehicles that without fail has a cloudy day with light misting for about 5-10 minutes at some point during the day every single time I go. Literally, every single time. I love it...keeps it cool out, and I work in the garage...works for me!

        Of course I've done it....
I think most of us have done it. That's what makes us "car crazy"

Oh by the way, if I want to wipe off my wheels really quick with a towel, can I just do so without a QD spray or should I use a QD spray for the wheels too to prevent scratching?

I would use a QD spray.

Meguiars even makes a wheel specific QD "Quick Wheel Detailer" that is more lubricating to help with the brake dust, etc.

I think it might risk streaking a little, which is why it isnt for on the main painted panels of the car.

              Re: Quick Detailing Tips/Techniques

Over at Autopia in his helpful article "How to Quick Detail Your Car," David Bynon recommends that when quick-detaiing one should wipe in "a single direction only." Does anyone here on MOL follow this rule? Does anyone know the reason for it? It feels awkward wiping in only one direction.

If what you are doing puts swirls in your paint, then it is nice if all the swirls line up.

Of course it would be better to not put swirls into the paint, so it wouldnt matter what direction you QD.

Is it safe to use a regular QD spray like Last Touch?

Well, it seems like the absolute best would be the wheel detailer, but any of the others would be ok.

Its really a matter of "how much dust/dirt", and "how big are the particles" and that sort of thing.

If your brakes give off a lot of dust, maybe you dont want to do any QDing. There is nothing exact about it, its just a gut feeling of what to use, and if you should or not.

I have made it a part of my regular routine using the "Quik Wheel Detailer". It does the job. I use a dedicated Microfiber from Wal-Mart to remove. Bad brake dust build up is a thing of the past.

Prior to using the quik wheel detailer, I used last touch for the rims. This worked well also. But The qwd works a lot better imho.

Thanks. By the way, how do you guys deal with QD running down the car? I'm new to QDing and I sometimes get annoyed because for example, let's say there's some fingerprints or something on a side panel and I want to remove them. I spray the panel but the QD runs down the side of the car instantly and then I have to wipe it in places I never intended to.

Should I just spray the cloth instead in this case?

                            Re: Quick Detailing Tips/Techniques

Spraying the cloth is a good idea. Esp for a fingerprint that doesnt reaaly need a lot of lube to remove.

But if it is something like a bird dropping then I like some extra lube. If the car is dirty as well, I may use a lot of lube. In that case, I spray the cloth, spray the car, dab around, sometimes spray the car holding the cloth on the paint below.... whatever it takes.

I use to have a neighbor who did that. He was in his 80's. When it started to rain, he would back the car out of the garage into the driveway. When the rain stopped he would wait about 20 minutes and then pull it in and take a bath towel to dry it.
