Re: Paint Problems on new Vette
It's crazy how bad it looks. You would think you could feel all of the scratch's but you can't. I was hoping that since you could not feel them perhaps they could be repaired without compromising the durabilty of the clear. Hopefully GM will cooperate and make it right. I've heard horror storeis about manufacturer's taking care of customers when it comes to paint issues. The attorney I talked to was pretty confident something could be worked out though. If I can't get another car do think #105 would do the job?

Re: Paint Problems on new Vette
Good God....that's BAD. Although the contamination likely could be removed, as Mike Phillps pointed out the dealership has already butchered the paint and removed a layer of clear. Fixing damage that bad will 100% for sure require removing another solid layer of clear.
That's absurd for a brand new car.
Also, in some of your pictures you can clearly see half circle shapes in the paint- those marks are 100% for sure installed from using a dirty pad/overly aggressive compound and then not properly polishing it out. THEY did that at the dealership.
Time to put your boot up their...well, you know.

Also, if you could ever find like the GM CEO email address or something, I'd tell him too. You need to get everyone to help out that you can.

Re: Paint Problems on new Vette
I don't think the owner of the dealership would accept this lack of quality finish?
There are some lighter areas in this picture where the clear coat just looks plain scoured...
Again... the process used to buff this paint and instill all these swirls removed a measurable amount of clear paint.
The process necessary to undo the damage will require an extremely skilled professional to re-buff all the panels to level the paint and thus remove the swirls. This will mean removing more clear paint off the car.
There's not a lot to start with. You shouldn't have to accept this car and you shouldn't accept this car.
Print this out in color in Landscape mode and take it to the dealership owner and show him the diagnosis posted here.
Make sure it's a sunny day and have him and your lawyer look at the paint in the sun. This paint look horrible. For the last car like this Joe at Superior Shine said he would charge $600.00 to try to salvage the paint job if that gives you some kind of idea as to what it will cost to have a "Pro" do the work.
You'll still have a very thin clear coat finish after it's re-buffed.
Don't accept this car, I'll guarantee you if the roles were reversed, the owner of the dealership wouldn't accept it. Make him look you square in they eyes and tell you there's nothing wrong with this paint job. Make him explain how it can be buffed by some hack detailer and then buffed again by a pro and still have enough clear coat paint to last over the service life of the car.

I know black is easier to see scratchs in, but ouch.... That's a new car?

Wow! That is horrible. I'm sorry to GM is being so unhelpful to you.
Makes me think when it comes time to get a new truck.

WOW! The paint on your car looks like it's from 1999, not 2009! I'd follow what Mike suggested. This is unacceptable for a new Kia, let alone a high end car like a Corvette! Purchasing a new car, especially one of that status, is supposed to be a pleasant experience, not a nightmare.
How many miles are on the car now?

Just recently we had a person join with their own dealership horror story and he pushed the issue until they took the car back and refunded his money.
Check this thread out and please read my comments throughout the thread as I point out that each time the car's paint is buffed to fix "their" mistake, the car will have less clear coat to enable the paint job to last over the service life of the car and you shouldn't have to pay for or suffer through their mistakes.
Are holograms and buffer swirl the norm for a black car?
Squeaky wheel gets the grease, hire a lawyer, protest outside their office, build a website and document your experience, tell all your friends, take ads out in your local paper.
As the owner of the dealership where you bought the car if he would accept the car as a customer?
I doubt it...
The clear layer on a new car is thin, once they start compounding it and swirling it out that removes a certain measurable layer of paint.
Fixing it will remove more of this thin layer.
You shouldn't have to pay for thin paint for something that's not your fault.

Re: Paint Problems on new Vette
They should give you a new vette. The condition of the vehicle is unacceptable for a new factory paint job. Try to get them to order you a new vette.

At this point you gave them a chance to fix the problem. Now you should be a royal PIA to the dealer.
I would also call GM and Corvette's customer service line. I would also call the Corvette Museam customer relations department (they handle the factory deliveries, might find someone willing to help there).
What city and state are you in?
Under no circumstances should you pay or do anything to the car. That will open up pandoras box allowing the dealer to say "well, we didn't do that to the paint".
Were you working with the sales manager? Why not ask for the owner, it cannot hurt. Keep pushing, being nice isn't going to get you anywhere anymore.
I cannot believe how many people are saying "oh just pay someone to buff it out". This is brand new factory pant and it's f*cked. There is only one solution at this point and the dealer is responsible.
Things like this really bother me!

Re: Paint Problems on new Vette
I spoke with the Sales Manager, General Manager, and then owner. None were willing to budge on a new car. They then brought in the GM zone rep who said it was "acceptable". Unfortunatley I wasn't present for his visit and feel he did not actually get to really see the problem. I did call a lemon law attorney that does work in Pa, and Jersey who told me I have a case. They said that even though I only gave them one chance to fix it they think they can get me another car. We'll see. I know that's going to be a hassle, so I was hoping with the right products/methods I could clean it up to look better than new. Doesn't sound promising though.
I wasn't able to get a good pic last night, light wasn't right. I'm going to try again today.
