if you look or build a dolly yourself i think you can save alot of money that could be better spent on meguiars products!!!!

I don't know, it doesn't read that way to me. Maybe miahjohn can explain more.

I find it difficult to make the lambs wear them. They keep falling off, then ya have to trudge all over the field picking them up.

        I use Meg's MF mitt.
The only reason some people get lost in thought... is because it is unfamiliar territory for them.

Personal preference. I prefer microfiber, myself.

You could always Knit them to stay on.

I also prefer the microfiber mitt. Works great for me. No experience with the lambs wool.

                Re: Grit Guard

I made my own Grit Guards for $2.00. Went to Lowe's and bought a damaged 2' X 4' plastic egg crate grid for a suspended ceiling (the ones you put under a suspended light) and just cut a couple to size for the bottom of each bucket. Works great, but not my idea--got the info from a detailer up in Canada.

                  Re: Grit Guard

                  I just picked up:

                  2 Buckets
                  NXT Car Wash 64oz (4.99)
                  Sheepskin Wash mitt (6.99)
                  Hot Shine Tire Spray (4.99)

                  Pretty good deal.

The two bucket method is used because it is much safer and greatly reduces the chance of damaging your paint during the washing process. It absolutely WILL extend the intervals between necessary full corrections if utilized correctly.

That deal you mentioned sounds great- but I think most would agree the benefits from having 2 properly dedicated buckets is well worth the added cost.
The dolly i mentioned would hold a 5 gallon bucket. buy two and you have a double dolly double bucket system=$16. buy two grit guards=$18 give or take......total investment=$34. you save $30+!!!!!

                      Re: Grit Guard

grit guard user here - or rather, improvised grit guard user. tee-hee. oh, and that's for both rinse and wash buckets.

                      .02 hth.
But that's just me. Hope that helped though...

                        Re: Grit Guard

I, too found the joke was on me. The GG, as received, was too large for my buckets. Rather than search out larger diameter 5gal buckets, I just ran the GGs through my bandsaw and removed the outer ring. Presto. I use them in both the wash and rinse buckets and am amazed at the amount of harmful stuff that has collected in the bottom of the rinse bucket after a wash. I also do the lamb's wool but have used the micro fiber in the past. Haven't really seen much difference between the two. GG is highly recommended!

                          Re: Grit Guard

I haven't used/found any mitt that stands the test of time and usages like the Meg's Microfiber Wash Mitt (X3002). Maybe some different brands of the different mitts I've tried would have better results but, to this point nothing as measured up.

As for the grit guards..... I think after using them and seeing for yourself what they do, there will be no doubt that they are a useful product. If your looking for every advantage to keeping your ride at it's best, then they are a must.

I went down to Home Depot this morning and meant to bring one of the GG's with me, but forgot. I found a couple of 14qt buckets that looked like they might work and were the right height for storing under my workbench.

Unfortunately, the GG's were just a little to big for the buckets. So I figured I would give your trimming method a try and with a hacksaw blade took off the outer ring. Took me about a half hour but they fit like a glove now.

I plan on buying a couple of grit guards in the near future. The idea is actually pretty creative and very useful. So is the consensus that they are too big for standard size five gallon buckets?

I would not say that they are to big for a five gallon bucket. I purchased one of my buckets from advanced auto parts, and the other 2 buckets are soap buckets from my daughters work. The grit guards all fit perfectly. No trimming was required.
