    Re: New 2.0 Pads

It was brought up that the centering button on the old backing plate would need to be removed for using the new pads. Does that cause any problems with the old ones? Is the new backing plate different just in that it has a different centering method?

      Re: New 2.0 Pads

I need to clarify my previous post...

I meant to ask if removing the centering button on the older backing plate causes any problems with the 6" pads, and also, is there any problem with using the older backing plate with the new 7" pads?

regarding my question about the differences between backing plates, I gathered that the new one was bigger and was made to fit the 7" pads.

        Re: New 2.0 Pads

The new Soft Buff 2.0 pads are formed in a way so that it easily accepts the Solo backing plate (W66). Also, the laminate covers the center of the pad, making it hard, if not impossible, to use the W64 plate.

The original Soft Buff foam pads have a circular cutout in the center. The older style plate (W64) has a centering button to help center wool pads. The plate is compatible with the original Soft Buff pads.

        Hope that wasn't too confusing...

I finally got around to using the Soft Buff 2.0 pads with my new Solo plate. Centering the pad becomes effortless and is a really nice feature. Plus, the Solo plate is much more flexible than the W64 plate.

          Re: New 2.0 Pads

Thanks for the reply- exactly what I was looking for.

I used the old plate with the new pads on my mini-van and I got decent results, but it sounds like the new backing plate with align much better. I think the button on the old plate made the center of the pad stick out a little.

Looking forward to picking up the new one!

            Re: New 2.0 Pads

So, looking at a picture of the W66 rotary backing plate, I don't see any centering devices on there (buttons, etc). Does the new DA backing plate have something like that?

If I take the centering button off my old rotary plate and use that with the 7" pads until I get the new plate, will there be any adverse effects with performance? I would imagine it wouldn't matter much with the old pads- some of mine don't have centered velcro anyway, so I had to eyeball it.

              Re: New 2.0 Pads

None of the DA plates that Meguiar's makes have a centering button.

I can't see there being a problem using the modified old plate with the new pads. There may be some extra pad flex, but probably nothing else.

                Re: New 2.0 Pads

Just got off the phone with customer service. All 2.0 pads are back ordered. Ben reported that they should get a new shipment in a couple of days.

                  Re: New 2.0 Pads

Got my new 2.0 pads in the mail, just tried them out last night.
                  here are first quick observations...

                  Look very well made, however
Pads seem too large for the G110 Backing plate, maybe this is designed more for the rotary application?
There is less Velcro surface area which concerned me initially
and did exactly what I thought might happen, pad flew off backing
plate at 5-6 speeds when running "off the car".
Other than that they function just the same as the original pads.

                    Re: New 2.0 Pads

My new 8207 pad broke apart after only using it twice on a UDM (velcro separated from pad). I'm waiting for a replacement from Megs but was told that they would not be available until November at the earliest. I am not impressed with the durability of the pad so far. Not trying to flame the pads but I expected better.

                      Re: New 2.0 Pads

I used two of my 8207 with D151 and ScratchX this weekend. I didn't notice a change in performance with regards to defect removal, I really didn't expect any, but my pads looked and felt sturdy and performed with zero issues.

The fact that I know I can wash them without issue is certainly a plus for me. Sorry to read people are having issues.

They are made to fit our backing plate and they do. They are designed for both the rotary buffer and the DA Polisher.

The design that you see is the way it is to incorporate the laminate to make them washable.

You're not supposed to run the polisher in the air, if you do the foam pad will fly off. The correct way to use any DA Polisher is to only turn it on when the face of the foam pad is in contact with the surface of the paint, and don't lift the pad off the paint until you have first turned it off.

                        Hope that helps...

Have not seen this one time since they were introduced?

No. The design is to fit the backing plate into the recessed area with a lip of foam surrounding the backing plate. You eye it up and do your best and with a DA polisher that's oscillating it's perfectly acceptable.

Not as long as you eye it up and get it as centered as best as you can.

I used speed 5 on the UDM and only washed the pad once.
