Re: Help with M80 - How long should it work?

I'll be washing my ride on Sunday at which time I will take some close up pictures of the swirl on a few spots but as Tax Season is just about over I am prepping for my spring cleaning which is the reason for my Q’s regarding M80.

If anyone has polished a red VW MkV your input would be helpful especially on the hardness of the VW German paint

you will need to let M80 do its job, give it time to work, if it doesn't do it. try it again, if you don't want to jump to m83 then you will need 3 or more M80 passes.

IMO i will jump to M83 and then go for a M80 pass, because that paint in my opinion is a little harder

      Good look

Re: Help with M80 - How long should it work?

Hiya i have used #83 on parts of my Renault (reasonably soft paint) incase marks are deep. VAG paints are widely known to be very hard, there is the possiblility of using a 4'' spot pad but will cut down your working area hence taking more time. Or Slow Cut Method?

If considering another product i know can tell you of what tends to be favourable over here and seems to work well for VAG paints.

        hope this helps

When using M80 Speed Glaze, for most paints, making 2 passes in 2 directions under medium pressure on the head of the polisher should be enough to break the diminishing abrasives down. (That's four methodical slow passes over a small area, about 16" to 24" square, the harder your paint, the deeper the defects the smaller the area you want to work)

See this diagram from the above article and mimic the two directions shown on the upper portion of the diagram. The kitty-corner passes would be extra passes you can make if you still have a wet film on the surface.

Move the polisher in different directions
You also want to go in at least two different directions, for example, from where you're standing, side to side, then front to back. You can also move the polisher in a kitty/corner fashion for complete, thorough and uniform cleaning action.

Only work a small area at a time
This will vary according to the shape, curve or body line of the panel you are polishing but for example on a large flat panel, you want to stay around a 12" to 18" squared area. The point being, don't try to work to large of an area all at once or you won't remove the defects equally everywhere.

            Overlap your sections
When you move on to a new section, overlap into the old section for a uniform end results.

I have worked on a GTI, GOLF, VR6, and a NEW BEETLE and I have not really have a problem with any thing. Maybe I am just not looking at it right though. I have not used the M80 yet but as soon as I can I am going to pick some up. I have just been using Color X and NXT with my buffer to take it off.
