    Apologize in advance for long post.

    2007 Acura, new hood installed (painted, cleared) Feb '08. The body shop scoured the new finish in places with their rotary. Worked it with Scratch-X and a MF pad when I got it back from the shop, but not with enough "passion behind the pad" - had little or no affect on correcting the scouring. Tonight after a rough day at work, I took to it with Scratch-X and a terry cloth towel, and A LOT of passion in a 3"x3" section (actually compressing the body panel slightly.) Lo and behold, the scouring was gone, and the finish was clear in the reflection of the flourescent tubes in the garage.

    Question - if Scratch-X with terry cloth and a lot of passion behind the pad corrected the scouring, does this indicate that I might be able to have the same correcting affect on the scouring with a G110 DA polisher (which I do not have at present) and some #83 or #80? I am not sure if my 46 year old arthritic arms are up to working the hood in 3"x3" sections with that much power, and I absolutely do not trust the body shop to touch it again. And I really want the finish to be perfect again to match the rest of the vehicle. And yes, perhaps I am looking for an excuse to get a G110.........

    Yes. Rotary buffer swirls can be very deep or very shallow depending upon the pad, the chemical and how hard Bubba was pushing down on the buffer while buffing. In most cases a DA Polisher with our W-8006 polishing pad and one of these products will remove the swirls.

    Good call. If they couldn't do it right the first time they likely won't be able to fix it the second time, they might just do the same thing and then make sure the add plenty of glaze to fill in and hide the scouring only if they repeated the process you would then have less clear on the car for the future as any compounding removes film-build.

    Machine cleaning and polishing always outperforms the human hand.

    Plus it takes most of the work out of the process.

      THANKS for the quick reply, Mike.

      I've made my decision - I am going to ask the wifey for permission to buy a new toy in support of my detailing obsession!!! Or I may not even ask permission!!!

      I just remembered that Scratch-X 2.0 is approved for use with the DA... since I got positive results from the Scratch-X by hand, should I maybe start with that product? I do intend to purchase the how-to video when I purchase the DA...

        You can use ScratchX with the machine, but since you're going that route I'd suggest just getting a quart of #80 and save the ScratchX for smaller areas (like behind door handles and such). Then a supply of pads, more micro fibers, some bonnets, some....some....some.....it's all downhill

          Meguiar's always teaches the philosophy and "Best Practice" of,

          "Always use the least aggressive product to get the job done"

          So yes, if you already have the ScratchX then give it a try by doing a little test spot using it with a W-8006 foam polishing pad on the 5.0 setting.

          If you're getting good results then continue around the car. If not then you'll need something more aggressive.

          You may be able to find #2 Fine Cut Cleaner at some Auto Parts Stores, if not then you'll have to find a PBE store or order a more aggressive product online.

            As an Acura owner (03 TL) and some friends who also have 07 TL, I would say with DA and #80 you should remove most if not all the scouring marks. You might have to apply two times to remove some deep one, but generally, I found two times would remove 99% of all the swirls. Good luck for getting new DA and enjoys detailling!

              As I agree whole heartedly of using the least aggresivemeans to correct. I would go ahead and get the #80. Use it, this way you would be putting some oils back in the new paint. Save the scratch-x for the hard to reach spots. Make sure to take some pics and share.
