  • Problem with NXT Paste & Liquid Wax or Me?

So I just got the chance to wash my car for the first time this past Monday and the car was fully detailed since 02/17 last month. I used M80 and then I applied a coat of NXT Paste Wax and then followed up it up with NXT Liquid Wax which always got me some great results.

The issue at hand that I am having is that this is the first wash since the detail was completed and I was very careful when washing and drying the car (little pressure used). Used all Meguiars products and made sure to rinse any dust or dirt that the car collected while it was out of the garage for only 2 days since 02/17. When drying the car and the sun sneaking up from the shade, I started to notice light swirls. The swirls are not very noticeable, but when viewing a panel in different angles, it was totally noticeable!!!

Again…this was only the first time the car was washed after the detail and cars only been out of the garage 2 days since then.

So sick to my stomach, I blocked a nice portion of the hood and applied some NXT Liquid Wax. Sure enough the very light coat was more then noticeable against the section that I left alone. The deep depth of the paint really stood out and in all honesty, it felt and looked as if I was cleaning a mirror. Now, does car maintenance mean that I need to wax it after every wash to avoid the swirls? Yes, the paint is very, very soft and I can leave minor scratches to the paint with my finger nails…which M80 or Scratch X can take out. Is there another Product from Meguiars that will last much longer for my car?

Or can it just be me? Appreciate any input.

That's one beautiful Cobra. Isn't M80 a glaze? I think you should try M83 to permanently remove the scratches/swirls, as M80 may simply fill the scratch, causing them to reappear later.

    Beautiful car man!

      Beautiful car man!
#80 is called speed glaze but it will premanently remove scratches and swirls when used correctly.

If they are very light #83 might be over kill. Having said that I really like #83 and use use it often.

When applying #80 are you working by hand, PC or rotary?

I really don't think its the wax so lets see if we can pin point it a little, are you using quality towel top remove the dried wax? After applying #80 but prior to wax does the car look swirl free even when out in the sun?

During the wash are you using a quality wash mitt, 2 bucket method or similar... what is your process?

Keep in mind NXT isn't going to remove any swirls like #80. You shouldn't have to wax after every wash to eliminate swirls. Black is going to show swirls and scratches much more so than any other color, there really is no way to totally eliminate the possibility of swirls/scratches.

Lets see if this helps narrow down what might be a trouble area.

Re: Problem with NXT Paste & Liquid Wax or Me?

Thanks MBA-J. Ticman and gb387...when I am using the M80, it will get ride of all the swirls and sorry, have not actually taken the car out into the direct sun when just using M80, so cant 100% say it is permanently removed before applying a coat of wax....but I can say that alot of the of the fine straches are masked by the M80 (if I am even allowed to say such a thing?). Then I get a little more confused because applying another layer of wax actually makes it look perfect again as if I just went over it with M80 <-- that leaves me even more confused.

I use the DA or PC7424 at speed 5 for the M80 (buff till almost dry) and speed 3 for the wax.

As for washing it, this time out since the car has only been out of the garage twice, I just used one bucket and normal mit from Meguiars. Worked from the top of the roof to half top portions before moving to the front bumper and lower sections of the car. Rims are washed with a different mit.

The MF towels are from Costco...not sure if that is a bad brand, but I used them to take the wax off and took the car out into direct sunlight and noticed no swirls at all last month.

Maybe it is just me...very frustrating and still oddly confused as to why a new application of wax will make it look as if I actually spent hours on the car VS if I left it as is, id be too ashamed to take it out of the garage right now.

Dont mean to cross link to other threads, but the pic shown on the link will show how bad the swirls used to be...it is no where near that, but I see slight evidence of it after the wash, but covered it up again with the wax.

Re: Problem with NXT Paste & Liquid Wax or Me?

I use the Costco towels but find the Meg's towels so much easier to use and so much softer. I buy some at a time, some for CHRISTmas and what not.

Back to your car. I'm not sure how much "fillers" that NXT wax has in it or if there is such a term used by Meguiars as they want you to correct paint then protect it. The layer of wax is so thin I can't see it filling in swirls.

My Neon has hard as nails paint. I did a full detail on it and spent 12 hours on the car (including interior). We went to Reno and 45 minutes in the ride, it rained and snowed on us. I went to a car wash (shame on me, couldn't find a friendly driveway and two buckets) and low and behold, swirled my car to death. Although not near as bad as it was before, I need to at least take my G100 and at least DC#1 to the paint (after claying to remove wax) and start over. I too used 2 coats of NXT 2.0 liquid. The swirls look like as if I used a rough towel to dry off say (best explanation of how it looks). I may take ColorX and 8006 pad to the car then a coat of NXT and see how it goes. You may want to try that. Anytime paint is touched it can get scratched or swirled. My paint is so hard it scratches easy, the Yukon stays nice a long long time and much easier to work on.

ColorX or M66 may be a good choice to get the minor swirls out and then a coat of NXT.. Maybe one pass of M80 instead of several may clean it up. May want to check your wash mitt and make sure nothing is embeded in it. Also make sure it's a real wool wash mitt.

Good luck. I know it's frustrating, my Neon (although not near as nice as your 'Stang) needs constant attention.
