  • Water Restrictions

Water restrictions here in South Florida are getting me up early on a Sunday morning.

If your house has an address that ends in a odd number, like one, three, five, seven, or nine, then you water your lawn or wash your car or boat between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. You can also hand water your lawn between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on the same days.

If you live in a house that has an even number address, you can water and wash your car between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Hand watering is allowed between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on the same days.

Violators will be cited. Each municipality will determine who will do the enforcing but there could be fines up to $5,000 and the possibility of jail time if you are a serial water restriction violator.

      Re: Water Restrictions

Water Restrictions here in Melbourne, Australia don't allow us at the moment to wash our cars at all at home, cars can only be washed at a car wash.

The previous water restrictions only allowed cars to be washed with a high water pressure system.

I just did a rinseless wash for my dad in his garage today. Works great and its nice and quick. If its too dirty, a conventional wash/2nd rinseless wash would be in order. The pickup had been "washed" by my dad a couple days ago, so the paint was pretty clean, besides all of the tar on it.

Over in the Gulf coast the restrictions are just as bad. Some local areas have limited you to just one day per week to water. You have to be done before 10am. then at night can't start until 4pm. Its a mess.

I really feel badly for those of you who have to deal with those restrictions. You have helped me have a new appreciation for my water now ... I guess I have just taken it for granted and never really thought much about it before. I am sorry to hear about what you guys have to go through. =(

              Re: Water Restrictions

I'm an even-numbered house in Miami, so was up at 6:00 a.m. as well Sunday morning. It's been extremely tough, trying to water the lawn/flowers and doing the cars - this is when candid camera would certainly get some great shots of me running around the yard with hose in hand multi-tasking!! I don't have a sprinkler system so my hose is my lifeline to a happy yard and happy cars!!

It doesn't look as though there's any rain in the immediate future, and just heard they're considering cutting the restrictions down to 2 days per week.

I reside in West Miami and our code enforcer rides around all day just looking for people that are watering on "off" days and times. It's a great/safe little city within Miami, but forget about sneaking in a car wash!!
