One thing that has been mentioned several times that you seem to be missing.
Unless you are really doing a terrible job of washing your car, the swirl removal sure doesn't need to be monthly.
Mine is done twice a year on a regular basis and rarely in between. If something happened to an area, I polish only that area, otherwise the 2 times a year works great.

If you are using a cleaner wax such as NXT Tech Wax monthly, I don't think you should need to do anything as far as polishing any more often than the twice a year thing.
You might need to polish a blemish from a clod of dirt or a clod rubbing up against your car occasionally, but not the entire vehicle.
Also, unless you already own the #9, I would get some #82. Same abrasive level, easier to work with, newer technology product.

If the water spots are actually water etchings, that is holes in the surface of the paint, then how hard or how easy it will be to remove these below surface defects will be determined by how hard the paint is. The harder the paint, the more difficult it will be to remove small particles of it and that's how you remove a below surface defects.

This is one of the reasons water beading can cause problems even though most people place a lot of importance on this characteristic of a wax. When a wax beads water it looks cool and in some cases it can be sign that the wax you applied is still present, but if no one is around to remove the water before it dries it can leave water spots in or on the paint. The worse or more polluted the water the worse the defect it can leave behind.

There is certainly nothing wrong with using Gold Class. Used monthly, it should keep your ride looking great.
The NXT is a very mild cleaner as is the GC. As I understand it, the NXT is supposed to last a little longer, but waxing monthly, durability isn't going to be a big thing with you. I do think the NXT will do at least some filling of minor imperfections which will cut down on your need to polish so often. The flaws will still be there, you just won't see them.
