Im just gonna throw this out there.

I have detailed 20+ brand new vehicles so far, im talkin so new they have less than 20 miles on them. Not one of them, not ONE didnt need claying and not one had no swirls. Each and every vehicle needed claying something fierce and most of them had sever swirls and scratches.

If you wanna keep this simple just clay once a year and use a cleaner wax every few months. Claying is by no means heavy detailing, its so easy a 5 year old could do it.

i mean. take my car. Mini Cooper.

its shipped from England on road, then to the harbour where it can sit there for a few days to weeks. then from the water its brought over to Halifax. then from halifax its loaded onto a train to Toronto. from Toronto it went to the dealer. from the dealer to my house. there is no way, that every place was spotless and that it didn't pick up **** along the way. the cars aren't covered.

and on top of that, if you don't pick it up right away, not all dealers store the car inside.

man i remember i was speaking to Richard a couple weeks ago and he was laughing about how i'm still finding wax a year later in little cracks etc...from their supposed "excellent SPA service..."

heck...i was laughing with him...

Man i get calls all the time from people with new cars and tell me that the paint is in perfect condition. Then i do my (free) inspection. I put my 1000W halogens on a panel, instantly the owners are upset . Then i put a plastic sandwhich bag on my hand and feel the paint, gritty like ussual. Then i have the customer do the same, then i have them do the same on my vehicle. By the time i leave they scheduled a full claying, 2-3 step polishing, wax/sealant, trim/tire dressing....the whole 9 yards. Remember, they came to me saying the paint is perfect and just needs a waxing

Okay, Okay, Okay...... since the chance of Liz coming for a visit is next to nil, I will consider claying the Lucerne. I have read about the sandwich bag on the hand to check for roughness, so I will try that tonight. I used clay on my LeSabre so I know it is a good process, just never considered it a necessity for a new car. Thanks to all you fellows.

Hey Paradox....if all these numbers have your head spinning, let me suggest you just pick up The Deep Crystal 3 step system. It is probably the most available, economical, quality product out there for the "average joe" who just wants to keep their rig looking fantastic. #1 is a paint cleaner, #2 is a pure polish, and # 3 is a carnauba wax. All very easy to use and will give you great results without putting a hole in your wallet.

that would be a sweet, slick look. Murr mentioned it and it'll look nice.

Just read about Color-X, and this seems to be for oxidized paints, at least that was what more of the reviews referred too. Why would I need Color-X on a new car? I would be a little worried about using that.

Thanks, SVT, the numbers did have me confused, but after reading here and with the help in this thread, I will definitely go with the NXT and maybe clay first.
I an not too worried about cost. Nothing else to spend my money on but cars, women, and RC helicopters.

Everyone is a little confused by ColorX at first, but it is great on new paint, old paint, or anything else.

For old oxidized paint, you can work it in really well, with a lot of passion. For new paint, you can work it in gently. Really good stuff, real versatile.

My car is left outside all the time, so gets lot of dirt on it, so the fact that it is a bit stronger of a cleaner is great as well, to make sure I get all the dirt off, even in a quick detail. Definitely a favorite product of mine.
