Re: Why use a foam gun?

I am surprised as well. Granted, I still probably wont try it unless something really really needs cleaned, but intrigued nonetheless.

blr123's pictures look really good but I might wait until I'm sure I'll have time to wax afterwards just in case I screw it up and strip off all of my sealant.

Have you tried Hyperwash in your Foam Master yet?

As far as stripping wax goes I recon it might after a few applications it might gradually remove it i.e. prematurely wear it away but the signs from today were good and when the time comes to do a full detail then it'll the perfect solution

Hmm I may need to get one of these too because I plan on getting some clients. I can use this to wash cars alot faster. I plan on detailing cars for some cash this summer so I can buy a new suspension

No, only Gold Class, Nxt, Shampoo Plus, and #62. I dont have room for any more....

They were all quite acceptable to me, Gold Class being least foamy I suppose. I have kind of been mixing Gold Class and Nxt to use them up and get it a bit more foamy. I used #62 once and liked it, need a few more runs with it when I get some more good days.

I dont know if it is a huge speed up with one person, but it doesnt hurt. The other problem of course is with a nice coat of wax, everything glides off more quickly no matter what. But I would still rather have to "catch" some of the foam before it slides off than watch my soapy water run right of the car.

Thanks. I tried it today. Not on my car though, I just ran over and shot some on the ground in our car wash area. It's about what I expected. looks about like the pump sprayer. There is just a lot more of it. I have some cheap mods in mind that I think will make a huge difference. I'm really having fun tinkering with this.

I have been tinkering with my makeshift foamer. Here is the latest incarnation:

I can't believe it actually works. I need a better valve though. I need something low profile that opens up to 5mm.

Anyone know where I could buy, or how I could make something like that? That blue one is from an aquarium
store and will be the first thing to fail.

I can't help with the valve... I have to say wow! Very creative, looks a little more advanced over the one you have posted earlier in this thread.

Hey thanks. It was very frustrating. I wish I had retained more physics.

If anyone is trying the tubing WD-40 straw thing. I would use 4. Just angle them all in right above that little plastic hood. Sorry I don't have a picture of that one. Also try to affix some sort of screen material about 1/4 inch after the output.

You will be tempted to restrict the output to get more pressure. You shouldn't do that. It will skew the metering of the Dial N Spray unit and disrupt your air intake.

Has anyone else messed around with this stuff? I would love to see some pictures.

Re: Why use a foam gun?

I'll try to get some video this week. BTW I washed my car in the rain on friday. It was just warm enough to keep from freezing. I foamed it with a few loads from a cheap handheld sprayer and then rinsed it with the 2 gallon Gilmour pump sprayer. All with warm water. I wouldn't clay or wax after just doing this, but it did get a lot of stuff off that I just couldn't leave on there.

Question: Do you guys rinse before foaming? I haven't been. I just foam it up straight away and then rinse. I figure blasting at a bunch of grit and salt without lubrication could result in some marring.

Here is a video of the Gilmour Spray-Doc with warm foam (NXT 1oz per gallon.) This car was so dirty that I wanted to get everything lubed before stuff started moving around on the finish.

Cool! Your like the mad scientist with that home made sprayer. Almost time to put your name on it and start selling. I have been looking for a tip for my pump up sprayer. No luck so far, but I have a few places left to check. Maybe I will just make my own.

                              Hi xebola,

I go straight in with the foam no rinsing first for the very reason you suggest, I will if the car is particularly dirty foam twice before rinsing.

Also, I always start from the bottom and work my way up.

With the lance in the video I would like to have an adjustable nozzle on the end as it seems to be very narrow.......you could miss bits........just a thought though

I have been really caught up with the gun, but it has always been on the back of my mind that I wanted a durable, solid, universal foam attachment.

A light bulb went on over my head and I actually got up aout of bed and made this:

It is made entirely of brass and PVC. It will fit on about 50% of the pump sprayers that I have seen and all round trigger sprayers. The next size up (which I have only made in my head so far) will fit on all the other pump sprayers and the square trigger sprayers. It feels rock solid, but only field testing will tell for sure. It cost under $1.00 to make.

I'm gonna make a bunch of these so I will get pics and show you guys exactly what this. But I gotta get some sleep.

                                Good Night

Oops there is nothing to give you an indication of scale. That is a 1/2 inch PVC end cap.

                                Good Night.
