  • Why use a foam gun?

Let me start out by saying, I have never used a foam gun.

So how does your wash method change using a gun? What is the advantage in using one?

    Thanks for the information!

Re: Why use a foam gun?

I read that the idea behind a foam gun is to minimize the amount of rubbing and scrubbing necessary to clean the vehicle by pre-soaking it with frothy foam. I rather use a bucket of soapy water and a wash mit or sponge to wash the cars I detail.

Easier to use in colder climates. Id never use it in warmer conditions. Only when its cold to get the salt off.

Re: Why use a foam gun?

The general idea would be that it makes the soap foam, and so cling better. You can kind of see in Xebola's video with the pump foamer that it makes the soap cling. I tend to find that the soap is always running away from me if I just go from a bucket to the car with a sponge. If you have the soap clinging there, then you have more lubrication than if it ran off.

Now, Accumulator actualy places his gun inside a mit, and shoots the foam through the mit, but I'm not that coordinated yet.

As was mentioned, in the winter is also nice, since you can do a pre-wash soapy rinse.

But the main thing is getting your lubrication to stick. And it is great if you have two people.

In your guy's opinion, is it worth the money to get one? Or could the money be better spent elsewhere in the detailing world?

I love mine. And a few quick connects.

But dont buy one of those $60 ones, call Gilmour and see what it will cost you.

I bought one at a local hardware store. Love it. Quick disconnects are a must.

                Hi guys,

It's correct that using will minimise the amount of scubbing you hav to do to the paintwork.......that has to be a good thing, I always foam (see pic) before even water touches the car, there are various types & makes of foam guns the one I use costs

Thanks for the information everyone. I have a pump up sprayer that I use now, maybe I will get a foam attachment for it and give it a try. If nothing else it looks kinda cool to get the car covered in foam.

My pressure washer has a foam connecter on it. Just had some soap to the dispenser and connect it to the pressure washer.

After trying it a few times I am totally sold on the idea. I plan to pre-soak with it every time no matter how I wash, summer or winter.

I think its great to get everything lubricated before stuff even starts moving.

When I get home I'll upload a pic of my $12.00 hose end foamer.

Thats how I feel.. It just makes sense to me to try and get the soap to foam so it clings more, thus more lubrication on the surface while washing.

I got an el cheapo hose sprayer thing with a soap attachement at Wal Mart for less than 8.00 a while back. The resevoir holds 4 oz of car wash concentrate and sprays a soapy mix on the car better and faster than I could if I dumped a bucket of car wash on it. Once the car is pre soaped up I hand wash with a bucket of fresh car wash mix. This uses twice as much car wash solution but it also gets twice as much soap and suds (and thus lubrication) on the car. I figure the more soapy mix I get on the car before I apply a mitt, the less chance I have of scratching. Bob
