  • Clay buffer pads?

Has anyone tried one of these clay buffer pads. I found one in the Griot's catalog. I'm just curious at the results. I find claying to be fairly easy, but anything to speed up the process would help.

But this product really concerns me. 1. What if the clay flew off - ruined claybar $28 for the size that fits it. 2. Wouldn't this trap the dirty QD? 3. If you used this at any speed, wouldn't the clay start to fall apart into little chunks? 4. Wouldn't this be really hard - holding buffer in one hand with QD in the other. 5. Wouldn't the clay take off too much - clay is meant for hand use.

At around $20 for some other brands, isn't this pretty expensive?

    Re: Clay buffer pads?

What the clay buffing pads do is take a very simple procedure and complicate it for no substantial gains in any aspect of the procedure except the substantial gains in the sellers bank account.

The first pads like this when ran over a curve would allow the wax to drop out and onto the floor... it always kind of makes your heart sink when you drop a piece of clay onto the floor as you know you'll have to throw it aways and then get your wallet out and go by some more.

The machine operation removes your immediate sense of feel for the procedure which is kind of important because you can tell when the contaminants are gone just by paying attention to how the clay is gliding through your sense of touch and with a little experience. When you use a machine your remove your sense of touch from the process.

Dismiss the idea, it's just to simple and Bubba-Proof to clay by hand. Kind of gives you some insight into the marketing mind of the seller.

You know, I don't think I've ever seen anyone do as good a job of talking themselves out of something as you just did here. Another forum member, Chex, has quoted me on this line: Sometimes logic is your friend.

From your own post (and of course, Mike Phillips' response), I believe you already knew the answer!

I also have seen these and never really thought it was the best idea out there. Like Mike said its simple to do it by hand and I actually think its kind of fun!
