I know this is a "paint" forum, but what about steps for taking care of varnished (NOT polyurathene) exterior wood on a woodie? I have some slight "pecking" almost like sandy surface that is very slight, but want to retain the gloss finsih. What do I do???

Re: "Woodie" exterior wood care
Hi Tom,
Well it is above the surface and feels like a rough overspray. It could be from a faulty nozzle that spit out globs instead of a fine mist, but the 4 other coats of Epifanes sandless high gloss varnish went on fine, with no blemish, just the last coat, then I stopped.
I did steel wool between coats (0000 gauge) to break the surface and avoid clouding that varnish tends to do during build-up, attached is an OLD pic before sanding to bare wood, bleaching and smoothig then varnish. Only one I have at the moment.
?????? what's next?

Re: "Woodie" exterior wood care
Based on my varnish experience, I would sand the varnish with very fine sand paper, then rub it out. I used a brush to apply all the varnish on my car and after the 5th coat I sanded between each coat. I have about 15 coats on the car. I actually wet sanded my last coats and the "rub out" was done with a polish not a cleaner. Such as our #9 Swirl Remover or our M82 Polish.

Re: "Woodie" exterior wood care
O.K. let me see if I have this..... sand, coat with a brush (gotta find a good one), dry, sand, repeat..... then wet sand and finish with a swirll remover? Looking for the deep gloss opalessance and luster found on woodies I lust after. What about the type of varnish I am using, sticking to the thin down ratio as describe elsewhere (NWC forums). Any other bits of advice? At the completion will Number 7 keep it looking good, or should I switch to something else?
Thanks for your help!
