Re: Compleatly new with lots of questions...

I have heard of 2 'grit guard' problems...

    1. Some companies, like Rubber Maid, etc that have them built into buckets, etc, people seem to find the dont work for some reason.

    2. At some point, there have been 2 different plastics used for the actual Grit Guards from the Grit Guard company. One floats, one sinks. You can imagine which is better.

I orderd mine from autodetailingsolutions.com along with some other products at least a year and a half ago, and mine actualy tends to float a bit in hot/freshly filled water, and sink in cooler water. I dunno...

But to be honest, even if you have to buy 2 bolts for a dollar, and put them through the Grit Guard to weigh it down, it is still worth it.

Ooooo, I'm back! Miss me? LOL

Just my 2 cents about car wash soap. Don't feel bad or anything about choosing DC soap vs. Gold Class, etc. I guess I am in the minority, but I have used both and I actually prefer the DC soap! Shocking, eh? In the end, it all comes down to a personal preference because I don't think you can truely go "wrong" with any Meg's product.....you just may find there are some Meg's products you like better than others for varying reasons. (I like the suds I get from DC, twice as much as I get with GC, but that's just my opinion!)

And gorin002, I'm not done waxing and polishing yet, I just got my grit guard last night so I just washed and clayed my whole car today, kinda tired now

Ganna put off polishing and waxing untill tomarrow, i'll post pics when im done!

(shoulda taken before shots ) ...lets just say the car hasnt been waxed or polished since 1999

Now I have a question, after claying a car (99 honda civic) how much Quik Detailer should I expect to have left? Cuz I've seemed to of used up alot

Well, I clayed my mom's 1994 Grand Am this past summer......I think it was the first time it ever saw clay. I'm guessing I used about 90% of the QD spray. The car was bad, plus I wanted to make sure I had enough lube (I have a phobia of messing things up sometimes). But, it turned out great, so it was well worth the $4.50 bottle of QD!!!!

Wow, dont know what happen to the rest of my post

                Anyways, i was saying...

I know you dont use two different products on the same App. Pad. But can you use the same App Pad on different colored cars? Will the color pigment (i think that's the word) that the products pull off of one car mess with another cars paint?

Secondly, how do you clean these pads? ><

                Thanks again!

Re: Compleatly new with lots of questions...

IF you are talking about the round, yellow Meg's hanheld applicator pads, that's what I use. First, I wash them with dishsoap (usually Dawn). I let them soak for about a half hour first, in very warm water. Then I rinse really well, to make sure I've got all that dishsoap out of them! Then I let them air dry and I turn right around and wash them a second time in the washing machine, with mild detergent and no fabric softener. After the wash I let them air dry again. Then I reuse.

I wash them twice (and the first time by hand) to make sure I've got all the wax, or polish, or ScratchX, or whatever I may have used out of the pad. I don't trust the washing machine to get wax out of the pads by itself....I'm just weird that way, maybe! But my method ensures me that I can reuse the app pads on either my car (red) or my mother's car (white) with no fear of any product still being on the pad. I have never had any problems of that kind.

If you are talking about how to wash pads that go on machines.......I have no idea.

And, im guessing its the same method for all the other towles too? SSMF? Terry Towles?

Re: Compleatly new with lots of questions...

Well, I don't use terry towels because I don't personally care for them. But yes, I use the method I described for everything I use....Yellow foam app pads, SSMF and all my little non-Meg MF rags. All soak in sink with dishsoap, get rinsed really well, air dry, then all go into washing machine (with no fab softener).....then the SSMF and smaller MF rags go into the dryer (with no fab softener), but I do not machine dry the yellow app pads, those are always air dry only.
