  • Coating glass with #21

Is #21 sealant compatible with glass? I often wax glass with Gold Class but I'm not sure how a sealant will bond to glass.

That doesn't sound safe to be waxing your glass at all.

I used to wax my windows way back and never had any problems that I can remember. I've been using rain X for quite a few years now and it works good. Hay, when is Meguiar's coming out with a product like Rain X? Rain X is the only non Meguiar's product I use.

I think NXT glass cleaner competes with Rain-X. The water sheets off very well and it is far easier to apply.

I'll have to give NXT Glass Cleaner a try. I've seen the product but I assumed it was just a glass cleaner. I'll have to go back and read about it. Thanks.

Meguiar's does not recommend using any of our waxes on any automotive glass.

Meguiar's automotive waxes are formulated specifically to work with and bond or adhere to automotive paints. Automotive paints and glass are uniquely different and as such we have no recommendation for the use of our automotive waxes, or any of our waxes or paint sealants on any glass.

Mike, do you use any thing on the exterior glass or do you just clean it?

                    Re: Coating glass with #21

If you want to have really nice smooth glass (windshield), clean it, then use a clay bar/quick detailer, then clean it again to get off any detailer residue.

I've tried #21 on my windshield and it does make water bead and protect against water spots. It wore off after a couple of rainstorms, so would require much more frequent application that Rain-X.

everytime i detail, i apply a very thin layer of #21 to all my windows. The water beads perfectly on the windows and just flies of at speeds of 40 mph or faster. It almost makes your windshield wipers obsolete.

                          Re: Coating glass with #21

RainX made something called RainX 2000 that was a white cream with a little gritty texture that worked great removing all kinds of road grime and leaving behind a clean windshield. I haven't seen the stuff in years. A clay bar works well too, but not as easy or as good as RainX 2000. I have been thinking of trying a cleaner that we use on glass top ranges such as Ceramabrite. It is made to clean glass without scratching and is easy to use. Any wax product applied to the windows seams to come off quickly and not do as good a job cleaning as clay.

There is a product called "No touch glass stripper" that is sold in automotive stores. It contains solvents and abrasives, and works well at cleaning glass. I use it with a PC and 4" cutting pad. "No touch" is the brand name; it does take a bit of effort if applied by hand.

If wax can use on glass then glass cleaner also can use on paint, does it make any sense ?
