99jag, good looking car! Don't see a whole lot of GTO's around but they are a good looking car.

I like the red exterior/interior combination! Much nicer than black, which is way too hot in these parts! Fortunately, the air conditioner on the GTO can quickly enable the car to reach the temperature of a meat locker LOL! And that's a good thing IMHO.

I find the paint quality to be much better on my '06 than on my '04. The hood on the '04 was repainted, probably due to damage in shipping. It did chip more easily, as the clearcoat seemed softer. At least they did a good job matching the color.
Liquid3d, thanks for the information on the spots where the protective sheeting was. I do have some fine lines, mostly on the glass now, that match what you describe. I polished the ones on the paint away with #80 (by hand). So letting the car sit in the sun will cause the remaining lines to disappear?
Some times I wonder if the sandpaper feeling on the paint (removed by the clay) isn't caused by rail dust but something related to the protective sheeting? I would think the protective sheeting would keep the rail dust off the paint, but who knows?

If they are the same spots i am talking about (mily in color almost) that should do it leave it in direct sun with nothng on it. you have to have all wax/sealent off it or that will keep the moister in. clean it with dawn or somehtign to remove all the wax then leave it in the sun hotter the better. this is caused by them not redesigning the protective covering when the made the new hood so it does nto seall 100% and lets small amounts of water in there.
let me know if i can help with anything else

There is nothing like that left on the hood. I do have a fine line on my rear windshield though. Nothing seems to touch it.
Thanks for the information.

That is a beautiful car man!!The a/c's on the GM's car freeze you out of your car quick. My boss had a 98' Firebird and the a/c in it was a killer...killer cold that is.
Congrats on the new car, looks really great. Love the red exterior and red interior!!

Thanks all, I do love the way it looks. I really liked the Jag (whole different type of car) but I'm digging the new ride, its just fun to drive. I need to find some time and clay this beast. But I ran out of time today and just did a Quick Detailer spray and whip.

I clayed my 350Z when it was "brand new"
the car had been parked outside a lot since it rolled off the assembly line, and the claying was very crucial to getting the paint prepped.
