  • Help w/ Shopping List including g100a

So I am going to apologize in advance for this long post. I just started getting into auto detailing around a month ago and I want to get a g100a to do things I couldn’t do by hand. First off I wanted to list the cars I will be taking car of and my goals then I wanted to show you my shopping list from ADS. Any feedback would be great. If you don’t feel like reading and commenting on everything you can skip to the questions on the bottom.

    Cars:
    1. 2006 IS250 Lexus Smokey Granite Mica (Dark dark charcoal). It's a daily driver and parking out side at my apt but in a parking garage at work. Paint's in pretty good condition right now and I want to keep it that way.

    2. 1996 4Runner Tannish. The car has been neglected. There is tree sap that has been on it for years, some parts of the chrome bumper seem a bit faded, the leather is super dried and cracked. I'd like to make this car look as new as possible. It's also parked outside. Driven every once in a while. Can't notice too many swirls because of the color

    3. 1998 Landcruiser. Silver. Another neglected car. Not too many visible swirls because of the color. Just want to keep the car looking relatively new looking. Parked in garage, daily driver.

    4. 2006 750i. A medium gray color. Paint is in great shape (only a few months old). Hasn't been driven that much and is in the garage. Want to keep the car looking perfect.

    5. 1991 735i. Burgundy with a gazillion swirls on it. Paint has been totally neglected. I want to make this car look as new as possible. Garaged and driven every once in a while.

Ok if you are still with me, these are the products I am planning on ordering from ADS.

    Ordering:
    G100A
8006 (2 of them plus the 1 that comes with the G100)
    9006
    #80
    #83
#26? (I don't see it on their site)
    DA Polisher Bonnet 2 Pack
    Bug and Tar Remover
    NXT Wax
    NXT All Metal Polish
Trim Detailer or Exterior Trim Detailer
    Clay

    Aready have:
    ScratchX
    ColorX
    NXT Wax
    QD
    Some Clay
    Eagle One tire shine
    Eagle One 20/20
    MF towels

    Some questions:
    1. Which is better for rejuvenating faded trim? Trim Detailer or Exterior Trim Detailer?
    2. Should I get the Mild Clay (200 g) or just order 2 of the Quik Clay Detailing System? What’s the difference in the clay?
    3. People say you need a pad for each separate product. Does this include a separate one for NXT wax and #26 (if I decide to top 26 over NXT?)
    4. I was thinking of getting the 32 oz size for 80 and 83. I’d like to keep costs down so I rather get less but not sure if 12 oz will be able to take care of all the cars.
    5. What other products do you think I would need? Will #80, #83, colorX meet all my needs with the G100A and restoring/maintaining the cars’ paint? I’ve heard a lot of ppl use #21.
    6. Is #80 ok to use on the new cars?
    7. The cost is close to 300 dollars for the items I listed above… is there anything I shouldn’t order to save money?

Phew, that took a while. Thanks for any responses and a special thanks to those who read the whole thing!

    1. either. I believe the exterior trim detailer is an aerosol can, so that may make your decision for you.-----I personally like the All Season Dressing in the detailer line. This would make sense for you because you have several cars to clean.

    2. Mild Clay is a little more aggressive. I haven't used it, but I will say that the Quik Clay is a good product, so you shouldn't be dissapointed there.

    3. not if you clean it between uses and/or switching products.

    4. for the amount of cars you're cleaning, I would get the 32. oz bottles, esp. of the #80.

    5. I noticed that your list didn't include any towels for drying or removing products. The water magnet is great for drying, and the supreme shine microfibers are an excellent choice. I also recommend at least a 2-pack of even-coat applicators (esp. if you get the ASD), and some foam applicators.
A grit-guard or two is also a good idea.

    6. #80 is very much ok for new cars.

    7. you mentioned you already had nxt, so maybe you could just use the #26 for awhile. I like it better on darker vehicles anyways.

Edit: Just wanted to say that you don't need to worry about long posts bothering people here. We're here to help answer important questions like this one

Substitute the Bug and Tar remover with the Body Solvent from the detailer line.
And #26 is available at ADS. It's just out of stock for the paste right now but they have it in 16 oz.
You should get the 6 pack of the mf bonnets...you'll save more.
I would get 2 quik clay kits becuz they come with a QD.
If you go with the mild clay I'd get a gallon of Last Touch or #34.

        1. I would get the trim detailer gel.

        2. Quik Clay is my choice.

        3. I would get seperate pads for the waxes. Also recommended is the cutting pad used only for the bonnets. A six pack from ADS is 49.95. Well worth the money.

        4. Surely get the 32oz. You'll love the #80!

        5. A 3 pack of Water magnets will do you good. You have the bases full with exterior care products.

        6. I use it on mine.

        7. I would skip out on the #26 for now. I would just use the NXT until your next order. NXT is tough to beat.
Watch your pennies and your dollars will take care of themself.

          Few more questions...

1 .Body Solvent.... Does that work well against bugs? It seems to be a lot more for tar stuff. Does it work on the brake dust buildup on wheels if they haven't been cleaned in a long time? I know they have other products for this but I am trying to minimize my products.

          2. Does the Trim Detailer protect against UV?

          3. What would I be using the Even Coat Applicators for if I had the G100? I do have some foam applicator pads. But aren't those kind of going out of use when I get my G100?

          4. Can the All Metal Polish stain rubber trim?

          5. Do I pay taxes when buying from ADS?

            1) The body solvent will work well against bugs. I'm not sure about wheels since I've never used it on wheels. You could pick up some All Wheel Cleaner for $5.

            2) I'm not positive about this.

            3) I don't use the yellow applicators much at all anymore now that I use the PC for 90% of my work. I still use them for scratch X and the occasional coat of wax here and there.

            4) Unless the Metal polysh sits on the rubber for extended periods of time, you should be fine.

            5) Unless you live in Arizona, you won't pay taxes from ADS

The Even-Coat applicator is excellent for spreading your various dressings. For example, I spray about 3 squirts of ASD on each of my tires using the high volume sprayer head. I use an even-coat applicator to spread the product on the tire nice and evenly (lol, get it??? ). As you do this for all 4 tires, the even-coat applicator will load up with a little bit of product. You should be able to cover most other trim with what is now in the applicator. Then, after about 10 minutes, give each tire a quick swipe to make sure the job is done right. These applicators are, in my opinion, the PERFECT size for tires.

As for the hi-tech yellow applicators, these are just handy to have. And they're inexpensive. You won't be able to get every single area with your G100, so at some point you will need to use your hands some.

I haven't had the pleasure of using the newer Body Solvent yet, so I have no clue about it. I would assume it's great though, as most of the detailer line products seem to be.
