  • Help DACP+PC on black paint, I'm skerd!!

    That's right I'm skerd!!

I have a few questions. I've never used the PC with DACP on black paint yet. I just picked up a client today that wants the swirls/webs removed. I did ok on a gold metallic Buick this weekend. I removed some rubbing compound swirls pretty easily. The problem is the Buick's color hides defects real well.

    Questions:

Will DACP and PC leave a haze (marred appearance) after applied for 30-45 seconds with light pressure at 4.5 speed using polish pad? I know I need to try but I wanted to preplan ahead!

Will #9 2.0 remove said haze if needed?

Should I order some other in between product (like #82, Cust service said #82 is not good with PC) before #81 and NXT finish?

Has anyone had some bad results? If so what did you do to fix?

Any tips or tricks to make work better?

    Anything to look out for?

Should I postpone this job until I test on my black explorer?

He also wants me to clay the truck but last time I clayed black it left very fine scratches. Was that something I did wrong? Dirty overused clay??

#9 seems to cover more than fix IMO. Am I wrong??

Help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

there shouldn't be a problem, but there is no way to say how long to work an area since every car is different and there are so many different climates to deal with. And with that each product will behave a little different due to climate and the job at hand, what might be fantastic for me in So Cal might not work as well for someone in Florida or Ohio. Each job has its own circumstances and you just have to adjust.

If you have any doubt you might want to try it on your black car first but even that wont answer your question about the car for your client.

The hardest part about answering questions like this is if you are a detailer and have the "eye" you will just know by the way the product is breaking down when to move on and when to change products, when to do an additional step etc. Some do some don't ( need the extra step ) and without looking at it all anyone can truly do is give a ballpark guess.

Good luck, Be sure to get some pictures.

          hey scrub,
with my black truck, if I use #83 I have to follow with #82, or I have micro swirls. also when I do my #82 step I have to use a finishing pad not a polishing pad. I never have had any luck using a polishing pad with #82. must not jive with my technique, but the finishing pad does the job so I stay with it. good luck!

Got it! I don't have #82 but do have #9. The cust service line said #82 and PC no go only rotary use. Many on forum have had good luck with #82.

Your customer service rep either mistook #82 for #2 or was misinformed on the use of #82. #82 can be used by PC. This is stated in the instructions. In fact, I use it regularly with a PC with excellent results.

                Scrub,

                1. #83 -- polishing pad -- pc at 5

                2. #82 -- polishing pad -- pc at 5

                3. NXT -- finishing pad -- pc at 4

Remove all products by hand with a microfiber polishing cloth.

It works on my black Hemi and my two black Harleys as well as on my wife's silver Tacoma.

BUT I prefer to use the Ultimate Wipe bonnets to remove the products.

                    Thanks for more replies.

I too like to use the ultimate bonnet to remove NXT only. Like posted elsewhere on forum it just gives the finish a pop!

I ordered #82 early this morn so I hope it gets here by Fri!!

                      scrub

Thanks for the kind words about my truck. I did not use #83 at all what I did use was #5 did the whole truck wiped down by hand, #20 same whole truck hand wipe, then NXT.

All were applied with a Black "n" Decker #9555 with a terry cloth pad on it. this is not by far the best machine to use, it was slow enough for me to get use to how a buffer works and Acts. (I never used one before) The truck was looked at by "a professional" locally and "He said"it needed to be polished "he's" right what you see is not perfect there still lots of scratches in my finish to deep for the chemicals I'm using, but the improvement was very noticeable. By far not perfact.

I have learn to believe 1/2 of what you see, The hardest color to photograph is black and even when the finish is below standards (mine)it looks awesome. the camera hides a lot. I tired to capture the swirls by taking the photo at an extreme angle, besides I did not want to get my ugly a** in the picture.and the sun to my back. The photo showed most of what I was trying to show. as of yet I have not found a way to photo a "hologram" or "orange peal".

I have read your post and because I feel that I'm a Rookie here and I'm learning like the rest of us I did not respond to it. I have been doing it wrong for so long and I do not want to give BAD advice. There are a lot of good people who do this for a living and have many years of experience and some of the best advice I have ever seen. Mike Phillips,Rusty Bumper. to name a few.

I hope I helped is some small way.

Please let us here know how you do.

Don't be skerd. I did a black BMW the first time I ever used a PC, using #83, #82 and NXT. See the results here:

                            Scrub,

Here's some advice that has served me well over the years that I did when I started out detailing cars and I still do today.

                            Perform a Test Spot

Always test your products and procedures to one small area from your first product all the way up to our LSP and then wipe off and inspect the results.

Once you have dialed in a system that works on the paint type and the condition of the paint type in one small area, then you'll have the confidence to repeat the system to the entire car.

It takes a little time, but when it's someone else's car, you're better safe than sorry.

Could I get more info on this machine. I couldn't find on the B&D website. Thanks for posting. You experience has helped me too.

I'm starting to feel better now!! Got the UPS tracking number tonite for #82. Your Bmer looks great. I mean your wife's. Right?

Your right the vehicle is not mine but as said in a previous (and lost post) I will treat it as mine. I will also treat the roof first as my test spot. I don't think the owner will look there first to see my ooppss!!

Thanks again for the help and votes of confidence. I will apologize now if any of you have dial up connections (tons of pics to load). When I'm done loading pics the systems gonna crash again. Yep even the backup server!
