  • Wheel Rim Cleaning

I have (what I believe to be alloy rims) on my 99 XK8 (factory standard). But they seem to have dirt streaks on them that I can get off. Any suggestions?

I have tried cleaning wipes, wheel clearner from Jaguar (let soak for 1 minute), wheel clearner with brush. Does not take off.

that looks like etching from a cleaner or dirt trails from brake dust...when you apply cleaner apply to a cool wheel in the shade and spray the cleaner bottom up that way the dirt doesnt run down a non-sprayed wheel. when I rinse i start at the top..I would use meguiars wheel brightener diluted at least 4:1 water:product.....
if you dont want to use that because it might be to harsh, use a light cut compound with a terry cloth applicator, but honestly as long as the wheels are the type recommended for use by wheel brightener you cant go wrong..following the directions produces superb results, if you do a search of it here you will find rave reviews

Additional info I have been given is that the wheels are painted alloy. Does that make a difference?

Just talked to our friends at Meguairs and they recommend NXT Generationâ„¢ All Metal Polysh. Order it and will have it early next week. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Well the Scratch X didnt remove the lines. I'll give the Meguiars folks a call today to see what else they would recommend.

Using the Crystal Paint Cleaner step 1 did lighten the lines but did not get rid of them completly. I have been using hand power on this, maybe some sort of electronic buffer would do a better job??

It sounds like the stains might be a little deeper thanwe think and a orbital buffer or D/A would definetly help get deeper into the paint than doing it by hand and help speed up the cleaning process. Could you post pic of the wheels using DC Paint Cleaner after a multiple applications?
