  • Need some quick help...

I'm sure this question has probably been asked a billion times, but here goes anyways....

I have a black 2005 TL. I recently got a Milwaukee Rotary buffer, and decided to give it a try. I washed the car, clayed it, and then took to it with a foam polishing pad and some mequiars show car glaze.

The car looked GREAT!! The finish was amazing, only minor minor swirls that you really had to look for.

Here are some pics of the result:

Anyways, it's been raining here for about 6 days non stop, and today I washed it at work for the first time since the buff. Well, I got it out of the wash bay into the parking lot, and under the light, the entire hood looked extremely hologramed.

I have worked in dealerships doing detailing and used rotary buffers before, on all different color cars, and never had this problem (at least that I know of) Now, I was also using those with the waxes and polished that they supplied, so I dont know if it's just the fact that the showcar glaze didn't like the rotary or what!

Any help is greatly appreciated. I know I can go over it with some M80 and then polish, but some details would be extremely helpful on exaclty what to use and in what order!

    Thanks in advance,
    John

show car glaze will wash off...idealy you would have sealed it with a good wax so that rain doesnt take it off

or the better way to improve things would be to actualy remove the swirls with #80 and then wax /sealant

the pics look really good..your doing something right

Thanks! That makes me feel a bit relieved. I saw some posts where people were seeing the hologram immediately after the buff, so I fugured I couldn't have messed up too bad.

So, just use #80 then go over it with a good polish/sealant like NXT im assuming?

Can the NXT be used with a rotary?

Yeah, that was just a rotary, and just a clay bar followed by the show car glaze with the rotary and a foam polishing pad.

I detailed at a lexus store and a volvo/jaguar store and was taught by a guy that had been doing it for about 35 years, so he taught me well.

looks like you have a good idea how to handle that rotary

use the #80 to take care of the swirls then top with 2 thin coats of nxt by hand

theres lots and lots of #80 threads on here, have a look when you get chance, theres plenty of good info

Any threads that can point me to a retailer to buy some #80 from? I live in the Milwaukee Area in Wisconsin. Haven't seen it at any places like autozone or the like, so any suggestions would be helpful!

About usuing the #7 with your rotary. I know that you can apply these pure polishes with a machine, but it just seems a little much considering the pure polish, as it has no cleaning ability, does not need to be worked in for application/effect.

ahh yes, the beauty of Nighthawk Black Pearl. It's very subtle, and extremely hard to capture in a picture. I wish you could see it in person!

I detailed a friend's Honda Accord--the blue speckles look familiar.
