    Deeper shine and luster

    Tim,

Ok, but what’s the secret. What products should be used to get that shine you shared, which by the way makes me jealous……. I am very detailed oriented and take much pride in my cars/truck and would love to know. Please advise

    My process consisted of:
1.Claying every painted surface removing all contaminants.
2.Sonus SFX-1 foam pad using 3M Finesse-it II Finishing Material
    3.Sonus SFX-2 foam pad using Meguiar’s, Swirl Remover 2.0
4.Sonus SFX-3 finishing foam pad using NXT Generation Tech Wax, TWO APPLICATIONS.

P.S. Did you do your wheel wells..........

      Re: Vanity Plates

Thanks so much for the encouragement, Rick. I got my clay today and started on it. I ran out of daylight before I got my truck finished but the overspray was coming off. I'm soo glad I saw this post before I started because otherwise I might not have had the patience. The paint that I clayed feels soo nice and smooth and it it so nice not to have the overspray....it was white overspray on a dark green truck so it was pretty obvious; almost as bad as yours was.

LOL. I thought your plates meant something like that too...now that you explain it though...that's funny.

Thanks for the advice about the Quik Detailer. I did what you said and I am almost through the bottle of Quik Detailer that came with it. I guess I will have to buy another one before I can finish claying lol.

        Meguiar's Claying System REALLY Works

        Lydia,

I am so glad you experienced what I found to be the best and only way as far as I am concerned to remove paint contaminants. I actually went through two plus bottles of Quick Detailer. It's work but growing up my dad instilled the concept “you only get out of what you put into it”. The end always pays off with satisfactory results. I didn't want to go through what I did but hey..... I believe now that every year I will go over the whole painted surface with the clay just to keep a beautiful smooth surface.

BTW, I am still waiting for Tim or Mike to reply to my last thread where I shared the process I took to get the luster and deep shine I got. But believe an even better luster is achievable removing all spider webs giving a mirror finish and that’s what I am after. There still is a challenge and want to kick it up a notch. We both as others can benefit from this.

          Hi Rick,

That is a difficult question to answer as it depends on the paint finish I am working on. I can give you a general idea based on what I normally do. Please keep in mind, that this does not include any deep compound work or wet sanding etc... . This is only for paint with moderate swirls. If your swirls are mild, you may not need to use #83. You will need to do a test spot to see what works best for you.

          Meguiar's:

#83 DACP with the Rotary and a W-8006 Polishing Pad
#80 Speed Glaze with the Rotary and a W-8006 Pad
#80 Speed Glaze with the PC and a W-9006 Finishing Pad or W-8006 Polishing pad depending on the hardness of the paint
#21 x2 with the PC, W-9006 Finishing Pad

Keep in mind, that is only the process. The most difficult part is learning how to apply and remove the products properly that avoids adding any marring to the finish. One of the best places to learn is right here on Meguiar's Online!

So for after the appliaction of the cleaners/compounds, I use dedicated MF towels for product removal. For the removal of the #21, I will use a MF Bonnet over a clean W-8006 Polishing Pad with the PC set to speed 5.

Here are a few more shots:

I will do my best to answer any questions you may have, how's that?

            Products?

            Tim,

Thanks for the quick reply; however this doesn't explain products used to accomplish what your pictures convey. Mike told me about another product for the wax and couldn't find it online. I am using the NXT Generation Tech Wax (Liquid) and plan on switching to the paste, however should another pre-finish product be used?

My paint finish only shows slight spider webs. Their not very apparent, however when the sun light hits the surface and directly looking as in a mirror I found these to be present. Are these removable?

P.S. I have used Meguiar's Pads and found Sonus to last longer. One difference is Sonus has a full Velcro backing completely bonded to the 6" backing pad and thicker foam. I have used Meguiar's pad for many many years didn't realize this until a friend told me abut the Sonus SFX.

As long as they work for you, that's all that's important. Sonus pads are made by Lake Country, and most comments I've read in my life tend to come to different conclusions than yours.

                #21?

                Tim,

In reading your method in getting the finish that looks excellent I found everything except the #21. There are were a couple of products, Deep Crystal System Polish and Synthetic Sealant. Which of these is the correct product.

Here is the #21 you are looking for.

                  #21 Synthetic Sealant

Note the #21 on the bottle. Also, #21 refers to the part number. So for instance, M2164, is #21 in a 64 ounce bottle.
