I thought it was odd that the reply states:

"There is no feasible way to quantify the lbs per square inch difference in torque between our machine and Porter Cables."

...but he then goes on to state that this machine has more torque than the Porter Cable model (I have a PC btw).

I like the fact that the he says you can't bog the motor no matter how much pressure is applied, if that is true IMO, it indeed has more torque than the PC.

I wouldn't mind having one to try against my PC/cyclo, perhaps I will order one some day. FWIW, we can all sit and speculate all we want, in order to find out the "real deal" you'll have to buy one and test it yourself.

It sounds interesting, and there is always room for new technology. Though I would tend to thnk that it may not be as safe for the novice user, because bogging down from too much pressure works out to be a good safeguard. I guess it may be more of an in-between unit, to go from PC - This thing - Rotary.

But I certainly wont be the first guinea pig to get one...

Who would ever use 7000 RPM's? Your either an expert... or crazy...

I rarely see my rotary get above 1700, at the very most.

OPM's, they are a bit different than RPM's.

Mike Phillips: The contraption surrounding the backing plate looks like most/all the other vacuum units for similar tools for collecting dust when sanding wood.
I just got in on this post but the first thought when I saw the photos was just that.

I would guess it was designed to be a vacuum, I don't know much about the tool but I would guess they could have turned the fan upside down or reverse the motors direction and create a "fan". As it sounds it may have some modification in the email tron1974 sent.

4000 opm is a little fast for the slowest speed also isn't there some benifits of having a warmer pad?

it is still very interesting but i won't be the first to buy it!

This reminds me of the DeWalt electric DA sander. Zey from this board uses one...not sure if anyone else does.

Same here I do not want to be the first to try it out!!
Since buying a DA is my first "pro" machine I want a proven design.

I am using a Bosch PEX270 AE orbital, and it works beautifully (see my avatar).

                          It has even more speed; 12 000 - 24 000 OPM, and a 4 mm pad throw.

Are you saying that pads are expensive for the PC you have? Is it because you live in Canada or are they just a bit expensive?
