  • Colorx on w8006

Today I'll be detailing an Acura. The car isnt in bad shape, but could use a little cleaning action on the finish.

I was wondering if I could use Colorx on a w8006 pad to give it a little more cleaning action. And if I could, what rpm would you recommend?

    Hi LW

I used Colorx on Megs W8006 pad and PC.

Used it on a Metallic Blue Porsche Boxster and a Metallic Black Ford initially at 2.5 then worked up to 3.5 worked a treat .

    Give it a try.

      What about pressure?

i just used this combo (colorx & w8006 pad with pc) yesterday with great results. it cleaned up the paint pretty well, and made it real smooth & slick and added a bit of protection (would of topped it, but didn't have time ).

Pressure is a hard thing to explain, but i moved very slowly over the painwork and applied what i would call medium pressure, i.e more than you would when applying or removing NXT but not as much as i would with #80. Mike has a thread discussing pressure to apply i'll try and find it.

            Hope that makes sense.

                Hey,

Meguiar's ColorX is one of the most under-rated products! It works very well!! Use the PC at speed 5 and a W-8006 pad, using moderate pressure and a slow arm movement. Work it in over a 2'x2' area and then remove. After you complete the car, I would go over it again with NXT Tech Wax or #21. You may be surprised just how well ColorX works!!!

speed 5? isnt that the speed you would use to remove a wax like gold class?

ive never had to use anything higher that 4.0 i think for colourX i would but a cheap orbital with terry bonnets to apply colourX

Yes sneek, speed 5. Meg's ColorX is a cleaner/polish and sealant all in one. As such, if you are using it for cleaning the paint, you want a high enough speed top break down the diminishing abrasives properly.

Have you used a PC with ColorX or just ColorX before?

I have used colorx by hand. Really didnt need it on my vehicle, though, since the finish was already very clean.

All right then, I'll go with colorx on w8006 on speed 5, then follow up with gold class wax.

                          Double post.

Finished the Acura after a 4 hour detail. My results were good, about what I expected. The finish definately needs claying and a stronger cleaning, such as #83, but for now its ok. It really needed a protective wax.

Its nice to see the difference I made in the finish. I taped off an area on the hood that I would not hit with the Colorx or Gold class wax. The difference was great. There was a light oxidation on the clearcoat I'd imagine, so after the thourough cleaning with ColorX, the black was much blacker all over the car. My client was very pleased.

I am detailing at my college in exchange for letting me borrow books for my classes, not money.

Next up I might detail his interior. His tan carpet is deep brown in some areas and the leather could definately use a cleaner/conditioner. Also, there is some strange odor somewhere.

ColorX and ScratchX both have diminishing abrasives in them.

And ColorX is very good on a new car, doesnt need to just be saved for restorations. I think it is the best product out there for daily drivers if you are short on time.
