Pictures from Thursday Night Open Garage - May 5th, 2011
Sheesh, what a night!! You guys has us jumping like crazy all night long - talk about a busy night!!!
We started with, what else, headlights. We got Norman going on proper technique and then let him go at it on his '97 Toyota pickup.
This is what the headlights looked like when he arrived:
And this is how they looked when he left (minus the masking tape, of course):
Meanwhile, plenty of activity going on outside too.
Of course the DA Microfiber Correction System was put to good use too.
More headlight work:
Ultimate Compound and a W8207 Polishing Pad still gets the job done. On this paint the swirls were so heavy and close to each other that it diminished clarity severely. We describe this as reflections looking "out of focus". The image below is a reflection of the ceiling lights in the hood of the vehicle. This picture is in focus, but the paint can't reveal any detail in the reflection.
After polishing the paint with Ultimate Compound and W8207 foam polishing pad the clarity jumped way up and you can see detail in the reflections.
Here's a close up of the tightly packed swirls before:

And after UC/W8207:

A special treat last night - Kevin Brown was there hanging out all evening. It's always a treat to talk detail theory with Kevin, and just pick his brain in general. Ivan was lucky enough to get some tips from the DA Microfiber Correction System master.
Once Kevin starts talking detailing to an interested group, you can't stop him! Michael Palero was more than happy to let Kevin do a little buffing on the hood of his car while Marc and Peter pay close attention to Kevin's comments.
All in all, a fantastic night. And a special "Thank you" to Andy for grabbing the camera and taking some shots while yours truly was buried with work!!
