Pictures from Thursday Night Open Garage - November 4th, 2010

This was our last regular TNOG for 2010 and it's also SEMA week, meaning new product launches...... and we had some new products on hand. Packaging isn't final yet so everything was in lab sample bottles, but it's what in the bottle that really matters, isn't it? (yes, our marketing guys will have something to say about that, we're sure!)

We started off with a black Toyota that Billy and Angela brought in. Billy was struggling a bit with the very delicate paint on this vehicles, getting a lot of hazing in the process. So we sectioned off the hood and did some testing to find the best plan of attack. SwirlX on a W8207 polishing pad provided all the punch needed to remove swirls and other defects, but even that left the paint looking a bit hazed. M205 did much the same thing. Using either on a W9206 finishing pad didn't give enough power to remove all the defects so a two step process was called for. In the image below the left side is after SwirlX on a W8207 pad - there are no swirls present but the hazing is quite noticeable. On the right side we did a follow up using ColorX and a W9207 finishing pad. Billy can then put a coat of NXT Tech Wax 2.0 on top of that if he so desires. But this is a classic example of working on very delicate paint - you just can't get too aggressive with it.

We then moved on to a newer C-Class Mercedes that suffers a daily commute between Huntington Beach and Los Angeles - it definitely pays the price! Swirls, water spots, fine scratches all work together to severely degrade the appearance of this car.

We did a quick test spot using Ultimate Compound on a G110v2 with a W8207 polishing pad.

That seemed to do the job nicely.

With that confirmed it was time to get going on the rest of the hood.

We followed the Ultimate Compound with some brand new Ultimate Polish, and finished with Ultimate Wax, letting some of the guys take turns getting a feel for the new products.

The end result? High gloss, deep shine, great reflections, a nice wet look.

There was also some metal polishing and leather cleaning going on.....

.... a bit of headlight lens sanding and polishing.....

.... and a set of mirrors loaded with scratches. Nothing a little M105 on a 4" polishing pad couldn't correct!

Thanks to everyone who came out last night, and every one of our TNOGs during 2010. We'll be back next spring when Daylight Savings Time kicks in once again!

The black hood of the MB C class just looks amazing after the use of ultimate polish and ultimate wax. I can't wait to try these products out!
