    Pictures from Meguiar's Garage - July 26

We had another great turn-out last night with car guys, (and car girls!), eager to learn more about how to choose the right products and then how to properly apply and remove them!

Karen brought down here 1970 Datsun Roadster and allowed us to Meguiarize it!

Here's the Transformation Team that turned a diamond-in-the-rough into a glistening gemstone!

I really enjoyed the open garage yesterday. I learned so much and I hope to attend many more. One product I have always wanted to learn how to use was the DA. Sean showed me the proper techniqe and I watched a few guys do their cars with it. I am in Love with the DA. I think it is just about the coolest thing for detailing paint. I saw that you guys had many of them there for everone to use and thats great.
You left out licking the water off. Oh, wait a minute, that's my cat, not my car. Uh, I mean my cat licks himself dry. I don't lick my cat dry. Or my car. -PC.

I had a great time at the clinic. Was also fun chatting with Barry a bit about my former Zaino days before Mike Phillips converted me.....

But of course the REAL fun was working on Bar10Girl's ride

Some before pix--sorry, they were mostly creative shots. The car was already Quik Detailed and partially clayed before I snapped these pix.

We rubbed the finish by hand using ScratchX!!

Wait, before I get ahead of myself, we thoroughly claybarred using the mild clay.

Mike Phillips was concerned that the paint was very thin, so we should work by hand. We knew the finish was SS, and proven immediately here.

Look, you can see where the pressure was on this pad!

While we used ScratchX, other polished chrome!

A little pep talk with Mike about the interior not being protected. #39 was used to clean the vinyl, but that was it.

One more thing, this car belongs to Bar10Girl. She's had it for 8 years, and next to her Pepper White/Blk 2005 MINI Cooper, it's her pride and joy!

Here it is washed and ready to bring over to Meguiar's.

Is it normal for SS paint to come off on the pad like that?

                      Yep!

                      Maybe Mike Phillips will elaborate.

                        Yes, very normal.

Actually, when you're working on a clear coat finish with a paint cleaner, you're also removing paint but because the paint is clear, your eyes cannot see it.

Reminds me of the post where people were finding color on their buffing pads of their PC on late model cars, only to discover that the manufacturer had tinted the clear coat.

Busted!!!! Bah, it was empty, so I just cleaned instead!

One of my favorite parts of this whole process was the brief debate about which wax to use. Karen was thinking NXT but Richard was big on #21. This suggestion actually lit up Karen's eyes!! Then Richard and I both suggested #7 under the #21 so we jumped right in, doing the coolest application of #7 ever! Richard and I started applying at the front of the car, working down opposite sides, while Karen and Bob followed us wiping #7 off. We finished this step in about 15 minutes - brilliant!!

All in all, a great night, as usual.

Indeed it was a great night!
I was blown to see with my own eyes the results of applying #7. No matter how the paint was cleaned, it had a hint of haze. After applying and removing #7, the paint just got richer and deeper
I wished that I could made some of the crome items shine more but overall I am happy.
Life is a journey, enjoy the ride!
