Piscataway, New Jersey! - Meguiar's Detailing Class April 30th
I also went to radioshack and bought that microscope tool. it's pretty crazy. You can see all the fine grains on everything from newspaper prints to the fine cracks in your hands!
Originally posted by Setec Astronomy Are you saying that the full 25 didn't show? I was busy at work and stuff late in the week and forgot to get in touch with you guys to meet up before or after for a little alumni reunion...but it sounds like it wasn't full?
yeah..but i understand things happen...like some ppl here have said, it takes a lot to make all this go down..all i know is one guy there had a killer harley truck...i didnt get to look at it who was far, some guy who was virginia and these ppl came...i would ask that we have a phone number posted as this way we can call to confirm, i ask that anyone that didnt attend pm mike or rod and apoligize, i understand ppl cant make it i just feel bad for the ppl who never had a chance next turnout i guarantee will be a huge success, this class gives you the chance to have a absorb a wealth of info, practice and try out products..honestly a small fee wouldn be bad, between breakfast, lunch, and discount mark is a very nice guy...make we can get the word out about pal auto to help out
I was CONSTANTLY DEBATING with myself since Thursday whether I should just pop over from CT (about 2 hours) betting on at least one out of the 25 wouldn't show up.
But then I figured the possibility is unrealistic.

that was my dirty harley truck. sucked i had to drive almost 2 hours in the rain. 1st time the trucks been driven in the rain in 6 months...actually only the 5th or 6th time its been driven at all since december. usually sits under its car cover in my driveway (no garage ) until a show rolls around.
not sure if you remember me, i was the "undercover" zaino guy there though. LoL!
i did leave with a few meguiars products to give a shot. #82 to remove some swirls, and #21 to give my zaino a run for its money since its due for a full blown detail. hasn't been touched since november! if there's another class in september, maybe i'll do my whole truck up 1/2 in Z and 1/2 in M and see who can tell the difference. lol
definately would want to go again!
you had that white civic there right? that thing looked brand spankin new. gotta love white!!
2000 Harley F-150 #0356
1985 F-150
Gotta love that ZAINO shine

Thanks to Mark for being such a good host.
Thanks to Rod for being an excellent spokesman & teacher.
Thanks to Meguiar's for sponsoring such an event.
Highly recommended to all; would attend again if given the chance. always something to learn !

Re: Piscataway, New Jersey! - Meguiar's Detailing Class April 30th
I had an excellent time and learned an incredible amount in just one day. Not just from Rod, but from some of the other attendees as well. Thanks a lot to Rod and Mark for a great day!
Let's not demonize a few people who maybe forgot, use a non-primary email account for MOL that they don't check regularly, etc.
Mike P., do you think you could realistically handle the logistics of collecting a fee and returning it to cancellees? How would you do that? Credit card (probably not everyone has one)? Mail (would that be timely enough)?
Just as an observation, last year the waiting list had about 5 people on it (like this year), and the day before you said everyone on the standby list could come...presumably that was a hedge against no-shows, or an assessment that Rod/PAL could handle 30 people if everyone had showed. If you had done the same thing this year, this would be non-issue.
Since this is all done by email and posts, it's not going to work as well as it would if done by phone. Possibly some of the no-shows had emergencies, or encountered the traffic that others did and turned around. Perhaps a confirming phone call to the participants a week before and the day before, as well as an emergency number at PAL for night before/day of meet (answering machine at PAL--not hotline to Mark's bedroom ) would allow a Sat. morning assessment of attendees and phone contact to standby people Sat. morn ("we had a cancellation, if you can make it down here this morning we can get you in" as is done with businesses/doctors/etc. that work by appointment).

Good point, and I don't think that is the point of this off-topic discussion in this thread, it's just an natural discussion borne from the event. I completely understand how busy people are and that as life happens, things come up, it happens to all of us and in the big picture, its easily conceivable that learning more about detailing cars could take a backseat to many other things in a persons life.

No, I don't think I could. No time. Another good point. I'm sure there could be a solution to this one.

In e-mail and PM's I did tell a couple of members that really wanted to go to go ahead and show up. I didn't have a lot of communication with Mark and Rod for this class so I didn't feel comfortable possibly overloading their class this time. In the future, we should all talk by phone the week before the event.
Our classroom here in Irvine comfortably holds 15 people seated, last year we had 48 members of the Rolls Royce club in one class, so I'm not known for turning away anyone that wants to learn.

Just some thoughts/ideas.
It's all good Mike. I do send out a reminder e-mail, in fact after this post I will begin to pull e-mails out of the admin panel for this weekends class and then create a mailing list to send out the e-mail. It's not a perfect system, but it is an evolving system as we're the only company doing anything like this and we're always trying to find better ways to help more people.
Thanks for your input, you know I appreciate it.
Mike

So close, but yet so far away , it would have been great to attend, i was ready to go , biting my nails up to the last minute , and trying to keep my cool. No shows - they happen.
I hope the class was great , i'm ready for the next one in my area Mike , and can't wait to see the pics and read more comments .

First let me state plainly that this post of your somehow makes me and and
demonize ???
forgot ? non-primary email ? dont check email ?
You sure have some creative excuses.

Glass is always half empty huh ?

You seem to forget that this is a free class and you expect Mark or someone to be calling 25 people and keep track etc... ?????
Um....I don't need any excuses, I was not signed up for this class. I went last year and I decided not to attend this one to allow others who have never attended the chance to do so (like yourself).

I was offering suggestions. If the "management" of this event is concerned about no-shows then calling can be a more effective contact method than email. I'm sorry you didn't get to attend the class, but inflammatory posts aren't going to help that.
