          Hey,

Just to clarify to avoid confusion:

I am NOT the "Tim" that is listed in the above post. Go figure, after all of these years with so few people named Tim, there are two of us on MOL.

              Hey RP,

I figured there may be some confusion. Hence my comment. I just wanted to make it clear that I was not the Tim listed in the post. Besides, everyone knows me as Tim aka 2hotford anyway!!!

Tim and Mike were great hosts. There's always something to learn, no matter how many times you detailed cars. My car came out shinier than I though silver cars can be. Here's my pics from the event. Click on the thumbnail to see the picture, click on the picture for the full 4 MP original.

                    Mercedes Detail Day

Thank you Meguiars for Holding the detail day!

I Have been to Several of the Detail Classes and have Enjoyed the classes ..... And Hope to attend Several More!

1 If Meguiars Would charge for the classes maybe The People that signed up WOULD show up...Its RUDE to see a FULL sign upsheet ...then SEVERAL people do the NO show!

2 Meguiars (NEW) Policy to ONLY work on Two cars.....Instead of Working on all the cars..SHOULD be changed back so that ALL the Students will get a chance to get help as needed! As SEVERAL people were Upset about this matter today!

3 Tim Started the Info section this Morning and was Ok BUT He does NOT Know the Product...Not to slam him But if you do NOT Know the Product Let Someone Else That does take charge! Show some Excitement!!! The Job is to promote Meguiars ....Right??

4 Mike Phillips did a great job on the TWO cars with all the Products...But again it would have been Better to see EVERYONE get a chance to get one on one as before

5 Why cant Meguiars OPEN the Store to the Class as before..yet another BAD move on Meguiars Part...The Store is open and staffed...So whats the Big Deal? Several People wanted to Detail there car after the class...but Must wait for the order to be MAILED out...Lost Sales =$$$$$

6 I Think that Meguiars SHOULD Offer a Level Two class for the advance Detailers...And Charge for it! ..Sign me up!

I Hope that Mr Meguiars will read this and WILL change it back to the One on One Help and Open the store to the Class.
As He Change the Car Crazy Show due to a Viewer that wrote in..... And it Worked!

Thank you Mark for your feedback. Let me try to address a few of your points.

We've discussed charging for the class and it is under consideration. Although some people didn't show up that signed-up, that always happens as things come up at the last moment. I've been quite thankful that some of the people that have signed up for classes have posted that they had to cancel-out or PM'd me to let me know and then I adjust the sign-up list accordingly, moving people on the standby list up to the main list.

2 Meguiar's (NEW) Policy to ONLY work on Two cars.....Instead of Working on all the cars..SHOULD be changed back so that ALL the Students will get a chance to get help as needed! As SEVERAL people were Upset about this matter today!
While we have changed our policy of working on many cars to working on one or two volunteered cares, for this class, after you left two members did stick around and we clayed them and the detailed them.

Our goal is to educate and to teach skills and techniques that people can use over their lifetime, to borrow from an old saying,

"If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, if you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime"

Our goal is to teach people how to fish, or in other words, how to properly detail all aspects of their car, exterior, interior and wheels and tires. I am always willing to stay and help everyone that wants to work on their car after the class is over.

3 Tim Started the Info section this Morning and was Ok BUT He does NOT Know the Product...Not to slam him But if you do NOT Know the Product Let Someone Else That does take charge! Show some Excitement!!! The Job is to promote Meguiar's ....Right??
The job is to transfer knowledge and skills. Tim Larson, (not Tim aka 2hotford), is in training to help teach the Detailing 101 Classes because he he has a desire to help people learn to detail cars and because we need someone to help out as interest in these classes continues to grow. This was his first time conducting the class and I'm sure it was a learning experience for him. You should have seen me conduct my first class back in 1989 inside Meguiar's first Mobil Training Center, in Eugene, Oregon. I was as green as green can be.

Everyone has to start sometime and take those first steps down the path they have chosen to travel. Sometimes those first steps can be shaky, but with practice, comes perfection.

4 Mike Phillips did a great job on the TWO cars with all the Products...But again it would have been Better to see EVERYONE get a chance to get one on one as before.
The work that was done in Meguiar's Garage was a team effort as our goal is to put our products into peoples hands and give them, real-world, hands-on training. Everyone there deserves credit as everyone there joined in and helped to take two diamonds in the rough and turn them into glistening gemstones!

As far as the change in policy as to how many cars we work on, both methods,
                      • 1. Choosing two demonstration cars to work on
                        2. Trying to work on everyones car

have their merits, at this time, the benefit of working on two cars and trying to show a wide spectrum of products and procedures outweighs the benefits of trying to work on everyone's car especially with the limited amount of time we have to work with. We want to please everyone, but that's not always possible.

5 Why cant Meguiar's OPEN the Store to the Class as before..yet another BAD move on Meguiar's Part...The Store is open and staffed...So whats the Big Deal? Several People wanted to Detail there car after the class...but Must wait for the order to be MAILED out...Lost Sales =$$$$$
We actually don't have a store at the Irvine facilities. We use to have a warehouse there, but we have moved all inventory to our main warehouse facility in Tennessee. We have actually never offered product for sale to take home on a Saturday, orders have always been processed and then shipped the following Monday.

6 I Think that Meguiar's SHOULD Offer a Level Two class for the advance Detailers...And Charge for it! ..Sign me up!
This is another idea we have considered, perhaps offering the Advanced class on a Wednesday, or Thursday evening. At this time, we have more clubs that want to schedule a Saturday Detailing 101 class than we have Saturdays in a year once you exempt holiday weekends.

I Hope that Mr Meguiar's will read this and WILL change it back to the One on One Help and Open the store to the Class.
As He Change the Car Crazy Show due to a Viewer that wrote in..... And it Worked!
Again, thank you for your feedback, I'm sure your comments and suggestions will be heard. For myself, and all Meguiar's employees, we all have to follow the direction give to us by our managers and to do the very best job we can. If any changes are made, I can assure you we will all comply 100%.

                      Mike

                      p.s.

It's Sunday, and family time so I'll try to post some pictures and the write-up for this event later tonight or for sure on Monday.

                        Thanks Meguiar's

I also want to extend my thanks to Tim and Mike and the entire Meguiar's organization.

This detail day was fantastic as I learned how wrongly I've been cleaning my cars for 35 years.

I learned better techniques for washing (two bucket method) and applying simple scratch removal products as well as by-hand waxing and buffing.

The way I've been applying wax all these years has led to way more work than it should have and lower quality result than I wanted.

We learned how to use the Meguiar's G-100 Dual Action Polisher that is fantastic. It can be used for polishing and swirl removal as well as wax application and wax removal/buffing.

And I shouldn't even mention the damage I've done to several of my cars by using improper products and techniques with machine polishers.

The Meguiar's Quick Detailer, Quick Clay and NXT Tech Wax are great products that I tried for the first time yesterday and was amazed at the results. (Of course the results came after learning better procedures and techniques from Mike Phillips).

As two of us were trying out some of the products on our own cars in the parking lot after the class, Mike invited us to pull into the garage and use the power tools to finish a complete waxing detail. The cars came out stunningly beautiful.

These were two brand new cars that looked better than anything at the dealer's showrooms (mine came with the famous "Dealer Installed Swirl Marks"). We were ready for the main display turntable at the Los Angeles Auto Show!

My only recommendation is that the NXT line might have different colored containers for products that should or should not be applied to painted surfaces. Several people mentioned that they applied NXT Cockpit Shine to their paint by mistake, thinking they were applying NXT Spray Wax. By using different colored bottles, this problem could be avoided.

Again, many many thanks to Mike and Tim for their hospitality.

                          Correction

I'm sorry. I made an mistake in my previous post that needs correcting.

The product mentioned that people used in error was "Tech Protectant", not "Cockpit Shine".

Thanks once again for the great education.

                            Hi wblynch,

Tech Protectant is undergoing a name and label change to help differentiate it better from the NXT Spray Wax and to better position it for our customers to understand what it is and where and how to use it. The name was changed to Cockpit Shine, but it is currently being renamed again and I'll post the new name and a picture of the new label when the changes are finalized.

Thanks once again for the great education.
