          Re: Pictures from June 6th, 2009 - Meguiar's Car Care 101!

Meguiar's thank you SO SO SO MUCH!. I would have paid for this course and been happy

Detailing an automobile isn’t rocket science, but it's not easy. This class has filled the gaps for me and I’m confident I can now achieve the results I’ve been unable to obtain prior to the class. My understanding of the products and the correct application will take the shine of my Miata to the next level. That brilliant black will soon be SWRIL FREE!

Please continue this class and the rest of your class offerings. The forum and the videos are helpful and please continue to run these outlet of information, but nothing compares to this hands on. The classroom instruction from Mike was AWESOME. Usually I have a hard time sitting in meetings that long, but Mike keeps everyone mentally engaged so that wasn’t an issue. I took a lot of notes regarding technique, choosing the correct product, what it means to sample on a small area, and too many other things to list.

I promise to show my gratitude by being a “Net Promoter” and using Meguiar’s products exclusively for my finishing needs. I look forward to attending a Thursday night class as well as an advance class in the future. Also, I Autocross with the San Diego Chapter SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) and I'm going to suggest this class to EVERYONE that is interested in improving the look of their car!

          THANK YOU MEGUIAR'S!

            Re: TERRIFIC CLASS !

THANK YOU Barry for making this possible ! . I've been in the Auto Trade for 40 + years and to-day I learned a lot .

Mike clearly explained the various how to's and do's & don't too .

I've known Meguiar's products were head & shoulders above others but I had no idea just how to use them all correctly .

For anyone reading this , if you like your car (truck , Moto , boat , Big Rig)

You really need to sign up for the next Saturday class as the info provided here is priceless !

I plan to be at the June 18th Advanced class to finish the job .

            BTW : GREAT pizza ~!

Great Class today Mike, great job teaching it too. Thanks Barry for hosting events like these, they are awesome.

It was also nice meeting all of you today.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                Remove swirls my friends.

Thank you to Mike and Meguiar's for the hospitality and great time I had at the Car Car class on Saturday. It's always fun to hang out with people who share an interest in cars, and I really can't say enough good things to do it justice! I would recommend the class to anyone who is a car person, and the price is certainly right (nothing, i.e. free!). As previously stated, if necessary I would have paid for the class. I really hope that Meguiar's can keep the class going in this challenging economic climate.

Nate's 1959 Nash Metropolitan sits outside exposed to the elements and as such was in dire need of a claying. Nate washed the Metro the day before so we proceeded with learning the correct technique for using detailing clay and then everyone joined in to clay Nate's Metropolitan.

                    Mmmm.... feels smooth....

Besides dirt and other contaminants you can also see some of the dead, oxidized paint coming off the surface.

The splotchy areas are just places that were clayed a little more and thus more of the dead paint was removed resulting in the uneven look.

If you look at the paint on the car, (look at the side of the car), you can see that just by claying the paint we've already increased the gloss because we've restored smoothness to the paint.

Testing the least aggressive product first to one small Test Spot. (SwirlX)

Inspecting the Ultimate Compound Test Spot

Marking the back of our foam pad so that we can easily see when the pad is rotating and when it's just vibrating.

Jamie steps up to be the first person to test out the G110 and show all the guys how it's done!

                      Freestyling...

We practiced cleaning our pad on the fly using a clear terry cloth towel to remove oxidized paint and spent product from our buffing pad. Because we're working on a single stage paint you can see the paint that has come off the car and onto our foam pad. Note when you work on a clear coated car you're also removing paint but because it's clear you cannot see it, it's still very important to clean your pad when working on clear coats.

Students are always encouraged to test out the G110 so they can see what an easy tool it is to operate and how much easier it is to remove defect by machine versus by hand.

Showing the Swipe Test to tell if the wax is ready to remove or not.

                      Mmmm... that feels good...

Thank you to everyone that attended and to Nate for letting us demo on his very cool 1959 Nash Metropolitan. Nate will have his car back at Meguiar's on June 18th for an Extreme Makeover where our forum members will finish the car and turn this diamond in the rough into a glistening gemstone!

Dang! I'm sorry I couldn't go. I just hope there's a car at least half that cool when I do.

Thanks Mike for conducting a great class. You did a great job explaining how to use the products and the differences between them. The class is invaluable if you really want to detail your car correctly and most efficiently. Thanks also to Barry for funding the classes.
