That's a big difference. Makes me want to get a hood from the junkyard just to see if I can do that too!!!
Too much of a good thing is even better!

And the DA is just for speed. If you look in the upper right of the photos, you'll notice some lines that were not finished. Well, the two quadrants above those lines were done by hand by Mike (left) and me (right). It just takes a lot more muscle and time. But the side benefit is that you won't have to do an upper body workout for a while.

You don't even need a junkyard hood. If you find any scratches in your finish or if it feels rough and not smooth, you can use these same techniques.

The only thing to remember is to try using only the product you need for the job. ScratchX is a milder version of the Ultimate Compound and may be enough for the task at hand. No need to work with anything harsher than needed. There's only so much paint. This was just one of the things taught in class.

Re: Pictures from February 21st, 2009 - Saturday Open Class!

Before we started we used a Quarter laying on the hood to help our camera focus on the surface and with our flash on we captured the exact condition of the paint which is completely flat and dull due to a build up of bonded contaminants.

This has to be the one of the worst, if not THE worst condition hood on any car we've ever selected for a demo car out our Saturday Detailing classes since 2002 Here at our Saturday classes we do our best to choose the worst condition cars to fully demonstrate the ability of our products.

The word for this is Horrific

On the lighter side, right before we started to hand apply Ultimate Compound we were showing how much product to put on your applicator pad when you're first starting out and your applicator pad is dry and that's about a tablespoon of product because some of the product is going to seep into the dry foam.

Right after applying some product and right before I flipped the pad over to start spreading the product out over the surface to be worked, a small gnat landed on the Ultimate Compound, just goes to show even bugs love how Meguiar's product smell!

                      Hi Mike,

Another great class. You're a awesome teacher. It was lots of fun and participating with good people. I was disappointed to hear that 3M
purchased Meguiar's. Not to say, it wasn't a good buy. 3M is a large company and also makes a good car care product. I trust 3M won't change any of the Meguiar's formulas. I tried quite of few car care products in my time. Meguiar's has great products. Thank you.

Here's a pic of the car off Muholland Dr in LA:

I still haven't done anything more to the car. I'll probably give it to a 2nd generation body shop owner that I know. It would just take a long time to do this with the consumer line. I'll post some more pics of the car along the trip as I make my way back to Alabama.

The hood still feels like glass even though it needs a wash now. (The dust was okay for Quik Detailer until some rain got to it.)
