Very Nice pictures, and I'm surprised about Ultimate Compound, I'll try to get one

Lawrence sent these two pics he took with his cell phone... this photo was taken after lunch as we walk around and inspect everyone's finish.

The car with the best looking, most swirl-free finish was the red Ford Focus in the background which belongs to our Moderator Mark Kleis.

          Mike,

Thank you for the great introductory class. Your knowledge, enthusiam, and patience were impressive. As a novice, it was exactly what I needed. I especially liked the format of lecture followed by hands-on- and I must not forget your generosity of coffee, donuts, and the selection of great piazzas for lunch. I eagerly await the advanced class.

          Thanks again,
          Ashton

Cool to see the classes have begun. Can't wait for Thursday nights. Is that a Nissan GT-R in the last pic?

Ha, very very cool. I've only seen one in person and that was in San Francisco. Glad to hear you had a good time.

Re: Pictures from the first 2009 Saturday Open Class!

                      Hi Mike,

Thank you so much for the training last week. This was my second time through the program - the first with you - and I have to say I really appreciate combining the forum discussion into the class, It has made it a lot simpler to find what I am looking for in the site.

I did try my hand at knocking out the etched in water spots and the million scratches in my Grand Am. Not having posted photos in a forum before, excuse me for showing a number of before and after shots. I need to practice a bit. Hope the pixel size is correct!

This is the rear trunk and spoiler. Tried to use the fluorescent light to highlight the problem I was working with.

This is a shot of the hood. I don't believe this 6 year old car ever had a wax job on it.

                      Photobucket

Yes, I did the towel under the hood trick - and taped off the areas to keep the residue out.

                      Photobucket

                      The result was unbelievable!!!!
                      Photobucket

This is the best I could do to duplicate the before picture on the trunk. Not a scratch or water spot left.

                      Photobucket

                      Now for the hood.....

                      Photobucket

                      And the roof....
                      Photobucket

I have to be honest that I did use other products than what we used in class. As I could not find the 2009 Ultimate Rubbing compound in local stores, I headed over to a local paint shop. I picked up Medium Cut #1 and used it with the Red pad (I know you recommended not to use it, but I needed to cut some clear to get the etchings out. And for the other readers, #1 is to be used with a rotary buffer, not a DA. I read the instructions, just ignored them... To remove the swirls, I used Swirl Remover 2 with a beige pad - wish I had yellow. Finished it up with Gold Class wax and another beige pad. Yes, there are still some nasty scratches from the previous owner, but I can live with those and not risk going through the paint.

What I did like about using the Pro products was that it was very easy to compare the different cut levels with the graph right on the face of the bottle. One of the questions in the Saturday class was exactly about that - how do you compare the consumer level products against each other? I believe that would be a very helpful addition to the packaging of the product. Take note - marketing group!

Needles to say, I came to class to get the confidence to do this myself and I left with it thanks to you. What an asset you are to the Meguiar team!

                      Thank you so much!

Sometimes it's the little things that make for the big things...

Nice work, it's always very rewarding to see the people that go through our Saturday classes put what they learn to good use...
