One of the members brought his BMW with a brand new custom paint job. The finish was dull, hazy and filled with swirls.

This paint needs help... this paint needs Meguiar's!

The detailing clinics at Meguiar's are truly hands-on clinics. We do our best to teach the skills you need to get great results the first time.

Below, the owner of this BMW with the brand new custom paint job is going to learn how to fix the problem using his hands with a few quality Meguiar's products.

          First up, ScratchX by hand.

After he applies the ScratchX and works each application in, he then removes it with a Meguiar's Ultimate Wipe microfiber polishing cloth.

Next, the owner applies an application of Meguiar's Deep Crystal Polish, works it in well, and then removes it. Meguiar's polishes do not need to dry before removing.

After the polish has been removed, an application of Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax is applied, worked in well and allowed to dry for 10-15 minutes.

After it has cured, it is gently removed using a microfiber polishing cloth.

The car is then backed out of the garage for inspection...

                  Here are the results.

Remember, this was all done by hand and it was to my knowledge the first time this person had ever used any of these products.

Not bad, definitely a dramatic improvement from where he started.

After learning the techniques for getting good results by hand, we then taught him how to use the G-100 Dual Action Polisher to go over the entire front clip and put a show car shine worthy of his new paint job...

                    Here are those results...

The absolute MINIMUM I would run on an 11" wide wheel is a 285, with a 315 or 325 optimal...aren't you afraid of the tire rolling right off the bead?

I understand where you are coming from, but these tires are actually still "safe"

The wheel manufacturer actually recommends this tire on their site.

                        I hope this helps.

                          Mike,
Is ScratchX the way to go for badly oxidized carbon fiber hood? Or would you recommend something else to remove deep oxidization on carbon fiber?

                            Hi Big Ben,

ScratchX is the way to go if you're working by hand, a cleaner/polish like Speed Glaze is the way to go if you're working with the G-100, (Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher). If Speed Glaze isn't aggressive enough, you could always substitute #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish.

Carbon Fiber components are either made using a polyester resin or an epoxy resin and sometimes they're clear coated to add UV protection. Regardless of the resin type, (clear coat paint is a resin also), you always want to approach you polishing work using the least aggressive product first, if that doesn't remove the defect you can always substitute a more aggressive product.

If you're going to use ScratchX, then follow the direction outlined here,

How to remove a defect by hand with ScratchX

Remember, when removing defects by hand using ScratchX, only work small areas at a time, don't try to work one half of the hood at one time, break it up into 3-4 sections and overlap into the previous section when moving on to another section.

                              Thanks Mike,
The owner of the car has tried to remove the oxidization with a buffer already using brand ??? And it didn't work, so you can see how deep the oxidization might be. I wiil try # 82 but I think I might have to go with #85 on that one using a wool pad. If that fail, (And I hate failure!!!) I think I will have to tell him to see a body shop unless the magicians at Meguiars can come up with some miracle cure

                              I'll keep you posted
