  • What defines a Meguiars Dealer?

So I needed another gallon of APC yesterday, and searched for the local Meguiars dealer
http://meguiars.com/dealerlocator/ from my van's computer and stopped by.

Guess what? they had none on hand.

I previously went to a different dealer locally when i needed some M-80 and they didnt have any on hand either.

I feel that if someone is recommended as a Meguiars dealer, then there should be a minimum inventory that they carry.

Just my Opinion for what it's worth

Have a similar problem here in Iowa. You ask for a product and the guy behind the counter hardly knows what you are talking about. I now plan ahead and order from Meguiars directly once or twice a year, now that you can get Meguiars Dline in just one gallon jugs (not cases) its well worth calling Megs!

Thats it! Last time the guy told me he could get me a catalog... Yeah... thanks man I can get you one too!

EDIT: IMO it has nothing to do with Meguiars, I think its up to the retailer to educate their sales team to sell the products they carry. I use to work for a Best Buy and for the most part its up to them to educate their sales team on the products they carry. Just my .02.

That's why I became a dealer. Everytime I would go to buy the D/Professional line locally, nobody had any. I could get polishes usually in 2 days for common ones, but anything in the D line took MONTHS to get in. I don't carry much stock because I'm order based, I don't sell to the public. I still usually have one of everything in stock.

I'm fortunate to have a PBE store that carries a very large inventory of Meg's products............If I could only teach him how to be nice to his customers!

              Thats a whole different chapter

But your lucky they carry alot of Megs products.

I did my search for the professional line.

I think Meguiars should set minimum inventory IN-STOCK requirements if somebody wants to be listed as a professional line dealer. I understand sometimes you run out of certain Items but these people didnt have the most common items from the professional line.

One didnt have a single Megs product in their shop, but yet they are listed as a dealer

Otherwise anybody get listed here as a dealer because they can order it online for them.

                For what it's worth...

I'll pass this on to Jason Rose so he's aware of your feedback.

When I moved back to Albany, Oregon from Seattle, WA, I went to one of my local PBE stores and offered to do a training class for their store which they took me up on my offer.

The owner, Toby, (Toby's Auto Parts), even brought down his classic Mercedes-Benz for me to demonstrate on. It was filled with swirls so it made for a good demo car.

After the training class, they increased their inventory selection and increased their sales just from gaining a little product knowledge. I also did a lot of free "How-To" classes for car clubs on my own, plus rand a detail shop which led to doing a lot of one on one training and education with the local folks. The net result for me was they always had the products I used and recommended in stock. Basically I trained them for me.

The problem with most counter people, is that they don't care. They get paid by the hour and detailing cars and polishing paint isn't their passion, so they'll ring you up, whatever you place on the counter. If the person behind the counter cares, and takes an interest in helping people to do things right the first time, then they make pretty good sales reps for products like Meguiar's if they can get some education and training.
