  • In new here and wanted to introduce myself

    Hello everyone,

My name is kevin and I just signed up for this forum this evening. I am a car detailing enthusiast and detail cars whenever I get the chance. I want to some day mix it in with my profession that is going to be painting cars.

Right now, I drive a 1992 Honda accord that looks terrible. The problem is clear coat failure, mainly on the hood. I am scared to mess with a rotary buffer seeing as how I have never used one. I do not know what to do about it. Are there any suggestions?

I have not detailed very many cars, and the extent that I go to when I actually do detail cars is not nearly to the point that I want it. The only real jobs that I have done are for my friend’s mom who was selling her jeep, and my moms van. Washing the outside, dressing the tires and rims, and shampooing the carpet and cleaning and dressing the dashboard.

I have been reading posts on here for about the past 2 weeks, and finally decided to join. You all seem like nice people who I could potentially learn allot of information from. So I hope that you guys will accept me into your circle and I can continue learning about Meguiars products and the art of detailing a car.

Sorry about me rambling on, I just wanted to introduce myself and tell everyone why it is that I joined.

    Sincerely.

    Welcome

We can certainly try and help you as much as possible. Clear coat failure isnt really fixable, either with a rotary or anything else, but if you enjoy detailing others peoples cars, there is certainly lots we can help with. Look into some of the posts about the Porter Cable G-100, (PC), as it is a great machine to start detailing with. Espeacialy detailing all the cars of family and friends.

        Hi Kevin,

        Welcome to Meguiar's Online

Here's a picture of extreme clear coat failure,

As Murr1525 mentioned, clear coat failure cannot be fixed, the only honest repair is to repaint the panel or the car.

Welcome to MOL, I'm sure you'll enjoy the art of detailing just as much as you do painting. It's a good thing you like to paint cars too, cause your hood will most definitely need a repaint.
