      Mike,

When you speak of "Perform 2 Test Spots see what it will take to remove the defects", I assume you did this with #80? And where do you do the test spots? One on a Hood (Horiz.) and the other on a door (Vert.)? Forgive me if this has been broght up before. It is not ringing a bell for me (and I thought I read the whole site. Well, almost all of it. LOL).

On Sunday, the 25th, I used the DA on my Mustang to get rid of about 90% of the scratches, etc on my car. Also the very nice swirls one of my sisters friends put swirls in my paint by rubbing her hand all over the door when it was covered in a layer of dust and dirt to see where the cat jumped on my car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyways, I got rid of all that, waxed it with some #26 and then I went to work, covered in #80 and #26

Remember, Meguiar's always recommends using the least aggressive product to get the job done.

The first test spot I did with M82 Swirl Free Polish with a W-8006 foam polishing pad on the 5.0 setting. I did an area about a foot squared on the drivers side, middle portion of the hood. It's important to be able to look down on the test area.

This had little improvement, so I next tried M80 Speed Glaze, this removed most of the swirls and scratches. I couldn't use a rotary buffer on the car because of the pin stripe flames, (Or at least, "I" wasn't going to use a rotary buffer on this car), and I didn't want to use M83 with the G100 as I thought it would be too aggressive for the hardness of this paint, so I opted to work safe, stick with the M80 Speed Glaze and spend a lot of time massaging each square inch of the finish. this approach worked. I probably had at least 4 hours into the M80 cleaning step and this includes polishing anything with paint on it.

Some areas I hand cleaned with ScratchX.

            Mike,

Thanks. I took a closer look at your photos above and it was #82 and not #83 as I first thought when I looked. I think I need glasses (just turned 45 on the 25th). LOL.

I ask because I am waiting for my shipment from Megs, #83 and #80 (which I thought was the prefered method approach). I do understand you had the pin stripe to deal with and thus, took a lesser aggressive product selection I imagine. Thanks for getting to that question squeezed in between.

#83 I reserve for things like bird dropping etch marks. #80 can remove most swirls, at least on cars owned by OCDs like us because we're more careful. This thread was very educational for F body owners, especially the black ones. You are making me miss my TA again! Well, Impulse Blue is easier to take care of.

I have to credit the guys who work at the local PBE, they kept trying to sell me the #80! So they actually knew what they were talking about! Before I read this thread and when I had my TA, I used #83, then #82, then #81, then MPPP and later NXT. I could have saved a lot of time and achieved just as good results with the #80 instead of #83,#82, and #81. The #81 did add a lot of gloss though. The #83 with the G-100 was time consuming to say the least.
