My truck takes a low beam 9006 which is 55watt, and a high beam of 65 watt #9005. both harness wiring is the same gauge, just the conections are alittle different in size. My thinking is this. If I put the different connection on the low beam size I could run 9005's on both the low and high (denallies do this I believe) I won't think I would have a problem with the wiring as they are both the same gauge. And the housing allready holds up the a 65 watt bulb. (the lows go off when highs are on.) what do you guys think?

Hummm... I am not to sure on that one, I will say on my 2000 S10 Xtreme (used the same factory bulbs as your truck) I installed an "upgrade harness" that allowed me to use a higher watt bulb in both high and low beams.
It was a simple relay that plugged in to the factory harness where you would plug in your factory high and low bulbs. The relay then turned on with the headlight switch or high beam and directed power straight from the battery through the "upgrade harness" to the new high watt bulbs and new upgraded plugs.
the "upgrade harness" was hooked to the battery and one set of high/low beam plugs on the factory wire harness and then the new bulbs with new plugs.
Make sense? it was very simple.Brandon

Probably not
If you want my opinion, I would leave it as it is.
You probably wont notice any difference in the intencity of the light between a 55 and 65 W bulb.
There will be no problems cablesize-wise, but in the long run the additional heat from a stronger watt-bulb will cause the reflector and glass-shield to fog up.
Don't see any reason why there would be two different sizes low beams, though.
Are one pair for "daytime running-lights" (goes on when you turn ignition to on, or start engine) and the other higher watt goes on when you turn light-switch on?
If it is so, I can understand the difference, because the running-lights are only there for visual purposes (makes the car easier to see for other drivers, during day) and not for helping driver to see at night, while the 65 W probably do.
This will save the reflectors.. and also gas-milage.
Also a better quality bulb will most likely increase the intencity of your 55 W bulb to the same as a 65 W and still hold a cooler temperature.Last edited by Wingsof66; Sep 12, 2005, 01:58 PM.

Here try this link...
eautoworks.com is your first and best source for all of the information you’re looking for. From general topics to more of what you would expect to find here, eautoworks.com has it all. We hope you find what you are searching for!
What the idea is there is suppose to be more power provided to the bulb (straight from the battery) so you can get larger bulbs and not hurt your factory harness... the only power the harness uses from the factory harness is the power to switch the relay.
When I had the harness I did have to change bulbs about every 6 months and my day time running lights didn't work with the kit installed. I did seem to get "flashed more" so my guess I should have aimed my headlights after the install.Brandon

A question..
Hi gb387..
Do you have a message senter that detects faulty bulbs?
And if you do.. Have you encountered any problems with it, giving you wrong messages regarding headlamp-bulbs?
Installed a same type harness in my LeBaron and now i get a message, saying light-bulbs are out.
I'm now considering parallel connecting the old harness back into the circuit..

I would stick to the same size bulb but upgrade to better ones. I have Sylvania Silver Star bulbs in my truck and in my wife's car. The color temperature of the bulb makes it a much more white light compared to the factory bulbs! I found that it made a big difference!!!2000
