Had one of "THOSE" experiences today.

A buddy at work came up as I was getting in the Truck commenting on the shine and such. Ok normal experience there and I love it and am getting used to it.

After getting back out and talking to him a bit the first thing he did after getting close enough was to put his hands on it. Went around to several panels touching and wiping. I did not shoot him or anything but don't you hate that. After he got done telling me what he uses and how he does things he put his hands on my finish.

My respectful ears suddenly turned deaf to his comments as I thought to myself "If you knew didly about what you are talking about, the last thing you would have done was to walk over here and put your hands on this thing". All his other comments were respectfully nodded to as I was politely waiting for him to walk away so I could get the Speed Detailer out of the back and remove the evidence of his being there.

Normally I would have went through the whole Meguiar's gambit with him but I could not get it out of my head that he did what he did.

I am normally pretty good about scoping out other folks' work done on there cars and offering compliments to try to strike up a conversation about detailing. Can't quite remember his car grabing my attention. Will have to try to park closer to him and catch him another day (when he has not touched my truck) and strike up another conversation with him. I think somewhere between touches he mentioned Turtle Wax a time or 2. Maybe Turtle was is applied by just using your hands without an applicator and he was just acting on reflex. I dunno.

Hehe. I need to start remebering to keep my hands in my pockets when this happens and hit the panic button the next time.

Don't mistake my enthusiasm for experience.

i'd just politely ask him to stop

"would you mind not touching, its kinda bad for the paint, can cause swirls if u rub onto some dust particles, thanks"

then u can tell him all about meguiars... and show him how to use speed detailer by deminstrating on ur truck.....

I'd tell you what I'd say to a friend that started touching and rubbing my paint but it's inappropriate for the forum..
but if it was an adult that was doing it like one of my dad's friends then I'd probably say something like what benhui86 said.

Next time as you are are talking and this happens, do in fact go into your Meguiar's gambit, while explaining what the QD does and why it's bad to touch the paint like that. Then hand them a MF and a bottle of QD to show him how easy it is to work with. Then walk over to his car, if it's really dusty, then say "Now had you rubbed the dust like this it would scratch the paint, and that's what you don't want to be doing on your car or anyone else's"

I know I have had to resist the urge to touch other people's cars, long before I started caring about my own. It's a respect thing.

SHINY is SHINY for a reason as my dad says. His #1 rule when he took us with him to car shows back in the 60's (at the time I was bored out of my skull and wanted to be anywhere but a car show), was that we were not to touch any of the cars in the parking lot, or on display. No matter how neat or how much like a rocket they looked... DO NO TOUCH ! (echo echo echo). And of course when we got into one of these boring shows, there stood in living color the BATMOBILE! *angels sing, clouds part*

And of course I could not touch it, because of all the dang velvet rope and all the dang signs that I'm sure my dad must have written "DO NO TOUCH" (echo echo echo). As if I could have gotten close enough in the first place. Grrrrr.

The clear bra on my truck is hammered from people touching/rubbing it. I sell them so I always show people my truck. The first thing they do is start rubbing their hands on it, with out fail. At least they keep their hands off the rest of it.

The clear bra product that you sell, does it yellow, peel or curl up at the edges? And do polishing/waxing/detailing, products, build up on the edge of the clear bra?

And on your truck and other cars and truck that you have known it to be on, how long does it last? And from your person use, what have been the Pros and Cons of using it?

              My Experience is worse.

I had my care all detailed, and when I got back from picking up groceries, there was a really nice big dent in the door.

Not only is there a dent, but the paint is completely scratched through, and I have some green paint from whatever hit my car.

I am assuming someone with a green car slammed their door against my car. I decided to just take a few deep breaths and try not to think about it. Afterall, I don't need any higher levels of anxiety.

Washed, Clayed, ScratchX the area... all I managed to do wa remove the green paint from whatever hit the car! I still have a dent and missing paint. I am a little bit pissed off about that because I can't fix it.

the same kind of happens to me like a situation like this:

getting in the truck leaving work and i see a old buddy who walks over to talk, myself still in the driver seat.

FIRST THING HE DOES- props himself by using my pillar with his open hand. that makes me so mad, but it's a bad habit and I've found myself wanting to do it in the same manner. i don't mind them leaning with their fore arms on the window seal, that won't hurt nothing but dang does that make me mad. lol
