When I told him I lived too far away, he asked me if I could come in sometime and give his detailers some lessons. LOL x 2!

I declined, but I gave him the URL of this website. Who knows, maybe he'll register.

Thank you for sharing this story and also for sharing your passion for detailing along with the things you've learned... What you've done is summarized in a signature line from a member from my old discussion forum that went like this,

"Each one, teach one..."

The idea being if the opportunity should arise to share knowledge with another that would enlighten and enable them, then seize the opportunity to help your fellow man.

Nobody goes into a weekend paint polishing project with the intention of doing it over or doing it a second time. My dad always taught me that, "If a job is worth doing, it's worth doing right the first time". When you take the time to share with another, information learned from our forum or from a class like Rod's, what you're in essence doing is helping someone to do it right the first time and avoid making mistakes.

I'm sure this is what the business owner was interested in as there is no profit if you have to do a job a second time plus most business owners want to offer the best quality work possible and chances are good after hearing you talk and seeing your car his instincts told him you had both head knowledge and technical skills he was looking for.

Rod's seminar was absolutely priceless, and I came away with dozens of helpful tips. Simple things, many of them, but serious timesavers nonetheless.

Two of my favorites:

When cleaning glass, wipe horizontally on the inside of the glass, and vertically on the outside. That way if you get streaks, you know which side they're on.

and

After washing the car, and before using a drying cloth or chamois, remove the nozzle from the hose and run the water at around 1/2 pressure. Use this to "sheet" the beads of water off the car, and cut drying time in half.

I was talking to a friend in the auto parts store about which Meguiars products to use on his bike. Another guy was looking at some stuff, and I saw that he had started listening. After I got done talking with my friend, he came over to me and asked me to explain what products he should use and how to use them.

Had somewhat of a similar thing happen Tuesday Evening. I always stop at the local Sheetz for coffee on the way to work. There is a police officer that also stops in there quite often. I was coming out of the store and he was standing next to my new Honda Ridgeline. He said he had seen me there and wanted to talk to me. He went through the whole gambit of what he was using for this application and that application and commented that he just could not get the same results I was getting.

I broke a few things down for him and steered him toward several of the NXT products as well as to this forum where folks like Mike, Tim and many others would be here to hep him out.

Anyway to continue to story, there was an Autozone next door that seems to carry the best selection of Megs stuff on the shelf in this area and I suggested we go in and I could point out a few things to him that I did not have in my detailing stash in the Trunk. I guess I should have been a salesman because the man bought everything I pointed out. Even bought about 6-7 of the Super Plush Terrys and about the same number of Extreme Shine MFs. Several of the scrub brushes and pretty much 1 of everything the store had in the NXT line.

So the little visit from the Police went well. Now made another friend on the force. It turned out well because I had just had my windows tinted over the weekend and they are at 15% and MDs limit is 35%. So the first thing that went through my mind was "Phoooey, I have not even had the tint on there for a week before the COPS got me. Hehe.
