  • Cheap car- need ideas

I'm going to be buying a cheap car next week and would like some ideas. I did some numbers and I'm going to be spending $100 a week on gas with my truck. Being in business for myself, I can't do that. Add in insurance/payment/maintenance and I'm up around $1000 a month just to drive. I want something cheap (~$7000) that I can pay cash for and be done with it. Currently I'm thinking about a late 90's Civic or Integra but I'm up to suggestions.

    So here's the criteria-
    5 speed
    ~30mpg
    no more than $7k
    fun to drive

I'm in north NJ & I see you're in NY. If it's geographically practical I've got a 97 Nissan Altima , orig ownr, garaged,CD,alarm, loaded, 30mpg,4cyl,automatic trans.,needs nothing but a new owner, all documentation from new including owners manual, never hit, not junk. I 'll give you phone # if interested & it's permissable on the forum or email.

I have to buy a car through a dealer, I need to get rid of my truck. Otherwise I would have already bought one.

Don't trade in your truck to a dealer unless you have to. Right now, you're going to get slammed with an unfair trade in price if you're not careful.

Shop around for your trade in.

Keep in mind you can sell your vehicle to a dealership without having to buy from them providing it's in good condition.

Right now might be a bad time for a trade. Might be better to wait a little while longer.....At least until the gas supply stabilizes some.

            Does that make sense?

I know about the trade deal. I'm getting what it's worth or it's not worth doing. There's no sense in giving up $2000 short term when you're trying to save long term. I found a real nice Integra so I emailed a couple numbers to see if they'd bite.
