Thanks for clearing that up Mark.

I was starting to get confused here.

Hope you had a good trip.

FWIW, I have bought two brand new Ford vehicles in the past 3 months and both owners manuals state to follow the Sticker on the Drivers Door Column. I am only guessing but I would bet it is related to Controllability when maneuvering for accident avoidance. For the SUV (Explorer), I would tend to follow the sticker on the door because of Tip Over Ratings for them have only slightly improved and Ford has done a lot to better their numbers. These vehicles now come with tire pressure sensors to let you know when they are too soft, thus easier to rollover if tires are under inflated. As far as my new Focus, I don’t think I can go fast enough to tip that thing over, unless I am on a hill going on the down side, LOL.

I like the idea of tire pressure sensors. It should save on tire wear, as well as fuel economy.......Not to mention safety too.

If you don't have oem rims and tires.. You can just go and remove that door-sticker.. Consult a person where you buy rims and tires.. It will depend on the wheelsize and producer of the tire..

I run on 225/40/18 tires/rims.. The doorsticker sais 1.8 bars up front and 2.0 in the rear.. I run about 2.8 allround.. (not sure how much that make out in psi)
If I run what the doorsticker sais my tires will wear out 5 times as fast.. only wearing off the sides of the tire..

The Ford Explorer tire problem wasnt the tire, it was from underinflation from Ford.

I would ask a private mechanic, not a dealership or trust the door stiucker.

Exactly! A lot of people who bought SUVs wanted them to ride like their Crown Vic or Town Car, and they complained about the harsh ride. So Ford recommended lower tire pressures for a smoother ride. Big mistake!

I think Firestone may have been the scapegoat on that one! But OTOH did other tire brands have the same problem? I don't know the answer to that one.

                  1.0 bar = 14.5 psi

                  1.8 bar = 26.1 psi
                  2.0 bar = 29.0 psi

                  2.8 bar = 40.6 psi
