Yeah, and it looks like a curve in the road too!

Not you usual dirt track racing I'm sure.

if i was to attend one of those races, i'd definitely be at the top of the sidelines (higher than ground level), just in case a driver loses control as mistakes happen to even the best of them.

That was in the mid-Eighties is mainly Hispanic areas.

The Portuguese and Spanish rallys were famous about this kind of spectator behavior. You were driving in a sea of people; playing Moses, and the sea opened just in time to let the cars through.

The spectators played also a little game. If you could slap&tap on the sides of the cars, you were "the guy"...

It is horror even to look at, and considering that these Group B 4WD things were powered by strange turbocharged or turboed AND supercharged (Lancia) engines producing 500 (later in rallycross 650) bhp. No active diffs, no nothing. Three pedals, one gearstick, the gladiator and the navigator.

I really wish Speed would show more rally racing - I think these guys are the best drivers on earth. To drive a car that fast on a narrow, twisty, dirt road (or muddy or snowy even!!) takes a level of car control - not to mention fairly large anatomical attachments - that most people can't even dream about possessing.

In many cases they drive on the edge of the earth! No guard rail and a 500ft drop. Not for me!

                  Re: Nutz!!

Speed channel had some insanely long contract with world rally, but then the channel was sold to Rupert Murdoch(Majority shareholder), who had to make room for more NASCAR.(was called speed vision)

I am sorry to the NASCAR fans but NASCAR is sooo super boring. the only reason i watch it is to see the accidents!

they need more programs on speed!

This same behavior still happens at various races including the Baja 500 & the upcoming Baja 1000 in November. In certain sections, you're driving or riding at high speeds on roads lined with tons of people. The roads are open to the public during the race even when some of the roads are used as part of the course. Accidents do happen and unfortunately there have been fatalities for racers, spectators and locals driving on the roads. The locals enjoy building dangerous obstacles and or booby trapping certain parts of the course (i.e. zoo road) which is great fun for them, but these traps sometimes take their toll on a few of the drivers & riders. The movie "Dust to Glory" has some good Baja race footage
