  • New cars and a wax demonstration at the Iowa State Fair....

I was at the Iowa State Fair a couple times this week looking everything over. On Wednesday I was there ALL DAY 9:30am - 11:30pm. I checked the cars out in the Chevrolet, Ford and Dodge booths first thing cars were clean and dust free... late in the day I noticed that they had become covered in dust and just about every kid that walked by wrote "wash me" or whatever all over nearly all the vehicles prices ranged from $14,000 to $50,000!

    Just makes one sick!

Then on to the Carnauba Wax booth (not sure the exact name Carnauba was part of it)... this miracle of a banana smelling product not only makes your car shine but also your pots, pans, counter tops, toy cars, sinks, glass, coins, blahhh, blahhh, blahhh.... I stood there and watched while the demonstrator applied some lighter fluid to the waxed car hood and burned it. People were buying this stuff up! It really was not all that slick, and they kept using Kleenexes to apply and remove the product!?!?

    Anyway... just wanted to type.

Most people really go for this type of thing. They're always looking for the easy way out when it comes to maintaining a car's finish.

Course, a car's finish need not be hard to keep up, as long as people are willing to do a full prep job first.

The maintenance part is much easier after that.

Yup you will always see one of those type of demos at State and County Fairs. ALong with the knife set that can cut through tires and soda cans and then slice a tomatoe... I always work up to cutting my produce by hacking up at least two sets of tires and a recyling bin full of soda cans... yup best way to make sure I'm using the sharpest tool in the drawer!

I remember seeing that same type of wax/polish demo back in the late 60's early 70's in Memphis. Right down to the flaming lighter fuild!! I don't know how many times I have run my car through flaming streams of lighter fluid! And if my pots and pans are flaming, let's hope dinner is being delivered soon!

While taking a training class at Meguiars back in 1993, Mike Pennigton lit a metal panel that was painted with automotive grade paint on fire. After it burned a few seconds he blew it out and had us touch it.

        It was hardly warm!
