  • Old Products?

    Hi All,

Has anyone ever heard of Meguiar's Poly Wash, #19, or Meguiar's Paint Protector (black spray bottle) ??

I saw those 3 items today in a PBE store.

#19 is a paste version of #6 in the Professional Line

Meguiar's Poly Wash was introduced in the 1980's I think, I have some literature I can look it up in.

If the black spray bottle says, Clear Coat Paint Protectant, this was a pretty good product, I actually really liked it and have a couple of un-used bottles in my collection. If you go purchase the Poly Wash I'll buy it from you as I don't have this item in my collection. I might even like to have the spray wax too if you don't want it.

      I was just browsing today.

Actually, I was looking for the old Wash & Wax in the Detailer line (In stock), and I saw stuff that I did not recognise (Like Medallion in a gallon jug--Not sure if it was cleaner or wax though--Didn't look like either).

But the owner got irritated with me for just browsing his store!......Like I was loitering or something. .....So I politely left.

I'll call back and get a price for the Poly Wash (Had a case of it I think), and for the Clear Coat Paint Protectant too (You say that's a wax?).

This PBE store is a Detailer's dream if you like Meguiar's products, but the owners are very strange people to deal with.

Well, that kind of explains why he has all that old stuff in the store, if he chases you out when you're interested in it.

Even with the weird owner, that sounds like a cool place.

I have a can of #19 in my "old products" stash. Cool looking can, like #16 only reddish-burgundy instead of blue. IIRC I sorta liked the performance of the liquid version better, but #19 worked well for the doorjambs/etc. of single-stage cars and it was easy to keep off things you didn't want it on (like rubber trim). Must've had some decent chemical cleaners in it, as it cleaned well but didn't seem (functionally) abrasive. But I'm basing this on some pretty old memories, last time I used it was on a file cabinet and that was in 2000 or so.

I don't know why they seem hostile to some of their customers.

But they have quite a bit of stock on hand, and the front area is full of the new GC accessories.........But I'm afraid to ask what the price of everything is, for fear of passing out in the floor.

I did ask about the old Detailer version of Wash & Wax (D-2201), and it was priced at $27.00! The most recent price list that I have from Meguiars lists it at $14.32 (Gallon).

They have bottles of Megs products that must date back to the late 70's or the 1980's, according to the logo design on the bottles.

Sounds to me like the owner is a little cranky about buying some Meg's stuff a long time ago that didn't sell...and he's trying to make up for his inventory carrying costs with that "new" price!

I wished I knew what their mindset was.

I tried to tell the guy that some of his stock was discontinued, and he acted like I didn't know what I was talking about.

I also asked him if he sold his products at Meguiar's list price, and said Meguiars did not have a price list as far as he knew.....(I have one myself)

I even tried to talk to him about this forum, and how I get first hand knowledge from people like Mike P. about discontinued products, and then he started to act like I was sent to spy on his product line!

This is one PBE store that I wished someone from the business office at Meguiars would contact about their rude behavior.

I may even send an e-mail to the local rep in this state, and get his opinion on these folks.

Reading through your comments about this gentleman's store leave me speechless... maybe you could shop at the store when the owner's not around?

                      Hey RB,

After reading your comments, I have to be honest, I would not give him my business. I would go out of my way to find another store that has the product and buy it from them. If it is something that you have to have and no one has it but him, then that is a choice you will have to make. Just IMO.

This summer, my wife and I were going camping up in the Rockies in grizzly bear country. I went to a local Outdoors store to buy bear spray. I have no idea if it works, but thought it wise to be safe than sorry. The owner was soooo rude when I asked a few questions about the product. I remained polite as possible. But I can assure you, I will never ever buy another product from that store!

You're just killing me here, I'd really like to find a shop like that. I'd try to view the owner as a "challenge"

I agree with you Tim........It's been a few years since I bought anything from them.

I was just curious about the old Detailer Wash & Wax........That's the only reason I stopped in there to begin with.

I didn't word myself exactly right in an earlier post.

I didn't tell him exactly what the name of the forum was. I told him that I talk to a lot of guys on the internet/forums about Meguiar's products, and that some of them worked for Meguiars.

But if he does find it and read it, then that's ok too.

I've always tried to back up my words concerning things like this.
