I would say that if gasoline is your big fixed expense, then you are either doing something extrememly right, or extremely wrong!

We probably spend as much on gasoline in a month as we do on phone bills.

Three of those take premium gas. I bust my butt to bring home a decent pay check to fill up and cruise. Cars are in my blood. I love the way they look smell sound. If gas were $10.00 a gallon I don't think I would change anything.
G-d bless you, between trying to pay for the gas I need to get to work, and mind you, I drive a six cylinder car, with a 1-bbl Carburetor, and only commute 20 miles round trip, and keeping fuel in the Wife's car, paying rent, etc, I'm barely making it as things stand now. Most of the folks I know are not in much better shape, and it seems that at least in so far as I'm concerned, and those I know are concerned, it won't take much more in the way of price increases, to stop our 'Car Show/Cruise Night' activity altogether.

Interesting to see how that Poll has turned out. Wonder what it would take before the results came out opposite from what they are now?

But Washington had better do something soon, instead of caving in to the special interests groups, such as big oil and the auto makers.
    Agreed

The Pick-Up Truck with the permanent steel cap, a.k.a. the large sized S.U.V., has become the modern day equivalent of the old 'Station Wagon' that the U.S. car manufacturers did away with, for the most part.

In so far as fuel mileage goes, the headache here, is whether your vehicle gets 1 mpg, or 100 mpg, it's still burning what has become some very expensive dinosaur juice. I suppose that as long as greed rules, and there's enough of left to sell, the price will continue to escalate, and someone will buy the stuff. It would have been nice though if some of the effort that was being expended for a short time after the escapades of 1973, hadn't been, pretty much abandoned

You can certainly pack a lot more in them.
I agree Rusty Bumper....our minivan has much more room in it than many of my friends SUV's....in fact, the "status symbol" of the SUV is quickly changing to a stigma of gas hog....minivans can look very "sexy" if one takes the time necessary to take care of them...we've had minivans in our family for 14 years mainly because of the kids...I think the stigma attached to them is a shame..they are very versatile....what mom wouldn't like driving this ?
