  • Carpet cleaning after a flood...

Anyone have any suggestions on getting the smell and dirty water out of carpet once it has been wet from rain water?

Not talking about automotive carpet but a commercial type carpet. Short pile something like you would see in a hotel/meeting room/and so on.

We have used a carpet extractor many times and some type of enzyme and a disinfectant solution.

Have you tried our odor eliminator in the Professional line after all the cleaning steps?

This is just a personal opinion, but after a flood I would opt to tear the carpet and padding out. If it's on a wood floor I would let the room dry out for a few days before laying new padding and carpet down. Even if you get all of the dirty water out, it's very difficult to completely rid the room/carpet/padding of the smell.

We just had carpet laid in the music department of the school I work for. It was a glue-down rubber-backed industrial type carpet.

If your's is something similar, I doubt that you will ever get the smell out of the rubber. As it is not the typical fabric-based carpet, it would make sense that extraction has not helped remove the smell. The water may be gone, and the actual carpet clean, but I don't think the pores of the rubber will come out.

I think your best bet is to follow the advice of ripping it out, if nothing has worked so far.

          Good luck!
